Bathe in the Fire is a worldwide collaborative project featuring artists from all over the globe, including the United States, Amsterdam, Australia and Canada. The songwriters and performers change with each song, while the only fixed constant of this alternative rock project remains the singer, Scott. BITF released their first EP, ‘Antihero’ in 2014 with the 2016 follow-up ‘The Sky in Front of Me’ ready for distribution during July 2016. The name ‘Bathe in the Fire’ comes from the philosophy of constant reinvention through trials of adversity. “Bathe in the fire and be reborn”. The collective has just released the single, “I Won’t Give In”, which is a remake of the song “I Can’t” by Ring of Saturn (the current band’s former name) to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
Compared to its previous incarnation, “I Won’t Give In” is grittier, grungier, bottom heavier and has a more orchestral-type layered sound that recalls the best of Alice in Chains. Even though the track has a dirtier sound, Bathe in the Fire have not lost their ability to craft a memorable song that would sound good when cranked on the FM dial. In other words Scott and company have managed to keep the perfect balance between aggro and melodic.
What’s more impressive, though, is how Bathe in the Fire pump electrifying atmosphere into a moody and gloomy song. The band has always explored various themes in their music as well as the darker side of life and Scott continues to work out personal and existential dilemmas playing out in his head through his lyrics – “I’m torn again. So many things I question still. Oh life can be so vague and confusing…” But through all of narrative’s unknowns, the one thing the narrator seems to be sure of, as he confidently sings is: “I won’t give in so easily!”
One thing is certain, Scott can sing and has a passionate and expressive voice which packs Bathe in the Fire’s music with that double knockout punch. “I Won’t Give In” is the type of song that you expect from this band.
There are plenty dramatic left turns and creative curve balls, as well as the soft/loud dynamics that infuses their music with such replay value. If that’s the sort of sound you want from an alternative rock band, then you will be beyond satisfied with this track, because that’s exactly what the band doles out here.
“I Won’t Give In” is fierce enough to get the mosh pit going, thanks to its guitar squealing, ominous drum tones and its rising action vibe. The band has crafted a thickly layered sound on this song that’ll have you wondering when the bottom will drop out.
And it does, rattling you as you listen to it. It’s just got more of those sonic peaks and valleys that play well on your stereo. Bathe in the Fire dipped into their own past and came up with a modern, fresh rock record.
