On the evidence of “Starlight”, Base Level Inc. is right at the top of his game, and it’s easy to see why he will be pulling in the crowds. What he provides here is four minutes of ebb and flow, deep breakdowns rubbing shoulders with a full on four to the floor anthem. Base Level Inc. is a Dance/Electronic project from a former rock musician and songwriter. The project officially got off the ground in mid-2015, with a basic background mixing Deep House with some reminiscent touches of the 90s Eurodance era.
2016 saw the release of Base Level Inc.’s debut single – the instrumental track called “Starlight” – which has received significant airplay on FM and digital radio stations from countries such as France and Belgium, resulting in the track entering into the European Independent Chart (Top Indécouvertes) and spending 7 consecutive weeks there, peaking at #4.
Between the strong house influence and the shimmering disco undertones, there’s nothing to not like about this track. Admittedly, it might be a little bit generic sounding at first, with its old school synths, but the potential this banger has is undeniable, and is soon uncovered.
Base Level Inc. weaves an excellent melodic and rhythmic experience in this song. “Starlight” kicks off rather simply, with a kick drum and a synth line above full piano chords before taking a more aggressive tone; it almost seems to be shedding its skin moving forward.
After one minute it basically morphs into all out pandemonium, starry eyed knee jerking, before a massive breakdown. Regardless of your taste you have to admit that this track was specifically designed to boost serotonin levels of whoever is within audible distance.
One of things I love about Base Level Inc. is the fact that he won’t keep you wanting for more. He explodes his musical theme thoroughly until you have had all that the song can give to you. And, when you think you’ve listened to the song for enough time, he reinvents it and sends it in a totally unexpected and always delightful new musical direction. But that you will discover more of in his next follow up single, “New Statement”.
There is so much Dance or EDM music out there that all the sub-genres get confusing. For anyone who’s new to the genre or even people who want to find the good stuff but just don’t know where to start, this single can get you on the path. For one thing, it’s very focused.
And it’s not just meant for the dance-floor. It’s great driving music or even music to have in the background while you’re doing things around the house or working out at the gym. It’s uplifting, energetic, and strangely dark and soothing at the same time. Sit back (if you can keep your feet from moving) and let Base Level Inc. take you to another dimension!
