Alberto Rigoni is an Italian bass player and composer, internationally known for his career as a solo artist and as a member of the progressive rock band TwinSpirits, Lady & THE BASS and co-producer of the Vivaldi Metal Project. Alberto has been featured on the cover of many prestigious industry magazines such as Bass Magazine (Japan), Bass Musician Magazine (USA), Bajos Y Bajistas (Spain), Basistas (Poland), TOP BASS (Poland) and Bass Guitar Magazine (UK). He has also recorded for several international artists such as Italian pop singer Alexia and is now playing bass for Canadian rock singer and songwriter Kim Bingham (Nelly Furtado) and The Italians, sharing stages with artists such as Alan Parsons, Suzanne Vega, Jørn Lande, Paul Gilbert and others.
Alberto Rigoni’s his sixth solo studio album “Duality” will be released on September 20th 2017. It features guests such as keyboardists Ryo Okumoto (Spock’s Beard, Phil Collins etc.), Jonah Weingarten and Mistheria, as well as guitarists Mattias IA Eklundh and Frank Caruso. The styles on this album move from fusion to rock, experimental and progressive rock. I am usually bored and simply frustrated with the lack of real music available and the strangle hold the computer assisted generation has on music today.
Ladies and Gentlemen of the real music community, I present to you real music without preservatives, additives, or artificial ingredients – the real deal. Those of us laboring for many years in the field of mediocrity hoping and wishing for the good old days now have something to celebrate again.
“Duality” is truly an instrumental bass-playing masterpiece of epic proportions, one that will withstand the test of time. It’s obvious from track one, “Song for My Soul” (feat. Mistheria) that Alberto Rigoni has chops, but the song proves beyond a doubt that he also has very tasteful tones.
The album is a tapestry of musical styles, filled with phenomenal arrangements and performances from incredible musicians, and the title track “Duality” (feat. Frank Caruso) plays testimony to these elements. Wrapped up inside its four minute playing time is a myriad of virtuoso flavors that both Rigoni and Caruso’s fiery guitar soloing injects into it.
“Message in Morse Code” rolls in a forward motion relentlessly pushed by Rigoni’s rumbling bass and drummer Doug Harris. Rich, full bodied, mellow, mature, sophisticated and soothing, “Kyoto’s Gardens” (feat. Ryo Okumoto) is a perfect caress to the mind and a balm to the soul.
It takes you light-years from this artificial existence to the edge of musical heaven. If it’s that upbeat, throbbing, funky bass sound you’re after then “Mad 333” (feat. Mattias Eklundh & Jonah Weingarten) is the answer. Eklundh and Weingarten add the euphoric sonic embellishments to the arrangement.
Beneath the impossibly fast salvos of plucked notes and dramatic runs, bassist and composer Alberto Rigoni retains an immense understanding of music. However Rigoni’s grasp on the inner workings of music translates into records for both the average music fan and the instrumental connoisseur to enjoy: Hence tracks like the rhythmic “Obsessions” and the experimental “Afterneath”, two opposites of the same coin, still attract the attention of all ears.
The album “Duality” is business as usual for Alberto Rigoni – an artist who strives to avoid repeating himself and always tries to find new territory on an instrument that he has induced into becoming infinite in its creative potential.
