BoyEatsGirl creates a balance of aggressive metal riffs and monstrous percussion

Australian extreme metal project BoyEatsGirl is driven by one man – Rick ‘Cleveland’ Pinto created launched the project in late 2015. In April this year BoyEatsGirl dropped its first single, “She Shattered Like Glass” and then followed that up with another single, entitled “The Ebony Curse”.

boyeatsgirl-profileBoth singles are set to feature on the upcoming 2016 EP release, “The Answer to Infection”. Pinto explains that the upcoming EP, is written as a conceptual piece and the tracks are like chapters of a psychological horror/thriller story about a man going through various stages of a psychotic breakdown.

Every now and then, an artist comes into the scene that challenges, confuses many listeners with their controversial artistic output. When I say controversial, I don’t mean offensive, but, to provoke very strong reactions: whether positive or negative. BoyEatsGirl is a band that fits this description perfectly. On “The Ebony Curse”

BoyEatsGirl creates a nice balance of standard, aggressive metal riffs, intermingled with fast, monstrous, ultra-heavy, ultra-complex mechanical cyber-grinding percussion, and a crazed use of sonic extremities. Also, there is use of growling vocals, which produces a thick, beastly, darkly regal, searingly muscular tone full of white-hot passion, and seems like it’s coming out of hell, but rising out of the ashes like a phoenix.

All of this, combined with the rhythms, super-macabre, dark lyrics give this track a strangely alluring, exotic, utter and inexplicable sensuality, which makes the thing not much short of a spiritual experience.

boyeatsgirl-cover“She Shattered Like Glass” is an addictive number with those guitar notes blasting out a super-monster crunch, while the drums are employing mind-boggling beats. On this track BoyEatsGirl lets out what possibly may be his most enraged, ferocious, violent and intimidating growl thus far.

The track keeps reminding you of all the familiar old sonic bastions of hardcore music that every enthusiast knows and loves while inviting and enticing the listener to take it to the next level – that next level being technical mastery and real food for the brain as well as the emotions.

In fact, that may be why BoyEatsGirl is establishing itself as my favorite extreme metal project: Rick ‘Cleveland’ Pinto is one of the few underground artists to offer a complete conceptual and experiential package in the genre – food for the heart, mind and senses, as intellectually stimulating as it is emotionally intense.
