The story: “During a New Year’s eve, Voys met a charming young girl named Louise. Her blue eyes expressed both childhood, head in the clouds, and the agitation of someone who is looking for their own way. It’s probably what everyone experienced once in his life, the transition from childhood to the adulthood. This meeting inspired Voys who imagined the story “Louise in the Clouds”, which have become 4 songs made as musical paintings.”
The latest chapter in the saga is entitled, “Strange Planet”. Although on the surface this song might appear to possess that classically eccentric Voys allure, with its seemingly peculiar title, this just might be his most accomplished release yet.
Perfect to cure a bad mood, grim day or long car ride, this track helped remind me why I like music. Fans who have been following the saga will see the same clever rhythmic catches that were on the previous releases. If you’re on the fence about whether to grab this, just know that this cannot be summed up in the just one single. It much surpasses that.
This is a solid series that actually engages a variety of styles beyond, and does so with amazing talent and wit. In fact, it has so many inventive hooks with piano, guitar and rhythm that I’d say it’s actually hard not to like, even for a wide range of tastes.
It’s hard not to appreciate this song. I also love the way Voys builds up the instruments in the background on “Strange Planet”. All things considered, Voys is a refreshing break from vast sell-outs, remixes, adrenaline and overall decreasing artist dignity for the past ten or more years.
Release after release, Voys is quickening its ascent into the elite level – into the souls of modern music listeners who reject what is now often a sickening definition of modern music. Voys continues using simple and warmly layered instrumentation, wry humor and intellect in his lyrics.
The messages that he incorporates into his songs is impressive. Therefore, what really gives Voys the step up above all else is he’s lyrics and sound. And one thing about Voys is that he has a very distinct sound.
With the “Louise in the Clouds” song and video series, Voys has found his niche, and not only is he working it well, he is still, in many ways, finding creative new corners to it – which is actually quite impressive. Voys is much more cerebral than most bands and you have to listen to his songs a couple of times before you can really begin to appreciate it. Enjoy.
MORE ABOUT: Voys, who learnt to play guitar when he was 15, describes himself as a musical painter maybe because one of his first interests used to be drawing. His musical influences are vast. Mainly, he listened to singers from the 60/70’s (Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, David Bowie, John Lennon, Neil Young) but he also listened to soul musical labels (Stax records, Tamla Motown), electro (Kraftwerk, Suicide), punk music (the Clash, the Sex Pistols), rock music (the Rolling Stones, the Stooges) and rap (Public Enemy, Urban Dance Squad).
In April 2015, he organized his first solo concert with just him, his guitar and a recording of his arrangements. The public reacted positively. Hence, he decided to launch his first solo project, “Louise in the Clouds”, a musical painting in four episodes. The first episode was released in April 2016.
