Boom Skhool: “Princess Jasmine” – carving out his own space!

Boom Skhool is a hip hop producer turned artist inspired by the magic of Disney who released his debut, the 10-track “SwymStyle’s The Hip Hop Prince”. We got a sneak preview to one of the album’s tracks, “Princess Jasmine”. The work ethic and quality control that Boom Skhool puts into his recordings is something rarely found in music of this generation.

It is evident that Boom Skhool is ambitious with an extremely bright mind, and a phenomenal sense of humility.  The production is on point. Fresh lyrical content, a poetic flow and story-line with immense depth that takes you on journey as you listen to The Hip Hop Prince’s story.

BOOM-SKHOOL-COVERI figured this much out listening to extracts from the entire album, because if you listen to the single “Princess Jasmine”, out of context, it may make a lesser impact than it would listening to the entire album from front to end. This hip-hop thing is nothing new to me, but every now and then something special comes along.

This dude flew right under my radar. It’s hard to keep up with quality artists when you are fed so much filler on the radio and TV. Then when somebody who pushes boundaries like Boom Skhool comes along, you’re lost for words and just slightly disorientated until your ears catch up to your mind.

I love how Boom Skhool can produce, but doesn’t feel the need to over-produce. It makes his input behind the boards feel more powerful. The beat and especially the bass go hard on “Princess Jasmine”, but it is nuanced; Boom Skhool doesn’t sacrifice the technical aspects of production for more emotion. Instead, he finds a way to balance both.

Of course, Boom Skhool kills it on the mic too with a very original rhyme scheme and flow, though I would have upped the vocal volume in the mix, as at times you may have to hit replay to catch exactly what he is saying. The way the record ebbs and flows without losing momentum is amazing and it’s because Boom Skhool is so surgical with his words and production, pacing the song perfectly.

It makes me think this one will stand out when it’s all said and done. Though my personal feeling is you’ll be better off listening to the entire album, if you want to fully appreciate this artist, as his creativity is on full display here and the songs will make more sense.

Boom Skhool is hard to classify as he is carving out his own space, but he is certainly going places and you won’t regret joining him at this point of his journey.
