The Whispering Tree includes classically trained vocalist Eleanor Kleiner and French bassist Elie Brangbour. Throughout the past eight years of their lives, The Whispering Tree have been making music and traveling the world together, to spread their talent, stories, personal interpretations, and ultimately, their love of music, with the rest of the world. Described as “one of the most talented duos to to take stage in NYC” by Deli Magazine, The Whispering Tree make it obvious they are far from the average folk band.
The band’s debut album Go Call the Captain, released in 2010, was strongly influenced by the band’s travels around the Earth and was reviewed with endless positivity. Their follow-up EP The Escape dropped just a short while ago on April 16th. The EP was recorded live over a course of three days at The Bunker Studio in Brooklyn, New York. With help from Clif Jackson on upright bass, Chris Shultz on drums and Clifton Hyde on additional guitars, the band came together and recorded this precious atmospheric gem.
The Escape features seven tracks that all share a flowing, but profoundly organic, folk-rock vibrancy. Opening with a mid-tempo ballad, the EP is introduced with languishing lyrics and a smooth ambiance. Kleiner’s delicately controlled and moody vocals are one of the many standout elements on this release. She constantly reels the listener into the spider web of emotions her voice is able to create. She exudes the same captivating qualities, as would a blend of Joan Baez and Stevie Nicks. Kleiner even accomplishes this on upbeat tracks like “No Love,” by running her voice over sturdy hand-clapping and an almost Eastern European sounding back-beat, all while vivid guitar riffs enhance the melody, making this song as catchy as can be.

The deep-reaching sound of each and every song on this EP is mesmerizing, and will be emblazoned in your memory for days on end, if not very much longer. The way that Kleiner has the ability to seemingly sing into your soul is absolutely astounding, while Brangbour’s colorful guitar textures are equally hard to resist. The extra talent added to the recording of The Escape was surely a boost; each song includes sublime aural interludes that may not have been achieved in the recording without their help. Needless to say, each member that contributed to this recording is flooding with tasteful talent and musical integrity. It has to be said, that over and above their obvious innate musical talents, The Whispering Tree also displays courage and verve, by delightfully delivering their own version, of an all-time classic, like “Over The Rainbow”. Chapeau!
Listening to The Escape is truly a unique experience. If you haven’t heard the music of The Whispering Tree just yet, now is the time to do so. By listening to every track on the EP, you will discover the purest sound of authentically honest music, which will make you feel like you’ve returned home after a long and tiresome journey across the universe. Kleiner and Brangbour have truly set the bar for themselves with this release. Take a listen to The Whispering Tree and find yourself in the secure comfort of your home, amongst the things you love so dearly…no matter how far from them you may physically be!
