Xelaine (pronounced Zuh-Lane) is a singer-songwriter and LIVE performer based out of Los Angeles. She has 3 current releases. ‘Revolution’, ‘Perf’, and the latest ‘DETOX’ [acapella version]. Xelaine has written for Lyrica Anderson and Mowii (1/2 of The Rejectz) and performed in Austin for SXSW 2018. Her debut EP is scheduled for winter release. Start to finish her voice is mesmerizing. She’s got the kind of voice that sings to every generation, full and powerful, soft and vulnerable, then playful but full of vigor. All of her music makes a statement. There is no mistaking who you are hearing when a Xelaine track comes on. Her previous tracks are outstanding, but ‘DETOX’ [acapella version] takes it to the next level. Free of the electronic beats and walls of synth sound, this song allows Xelaine to get to the core of her craft.
Xelaine has always been comfortable and confident with propulsive, powerful and mature vocals that appear to come from another time. Her soaring vocals are distinct from what is heard on radio today, and she is not in pursuit of that ever evasive crossover appeal. Xelaine fully displays her vocal talent in the one place where those with the gift shine, and that is on balladry songs like this one.
The sparse acapella arrangement gives Xelaine ample space to showcase her range and flare for the dramatic on a tune that finds her trying to come to terms with her feelings and emotions, transition between love and devotion to outright denial in contrasting flourishes. Her music strikes with such conviction that it places the listener right in the center of her situation.
The voice of Xelaine shines through with her creative display of vocal control. Her rich and soulful voice together with her strong and personal lyrics creates a memorable and lasting impression in this journey-filled track. Xelaine has a confidence to her singing and a very natural, flowing voice that guides one smooth bar after another.
Xelaine proves on ‘DETOX’ [acapella version] that everybody doesn’t have to be the same type of artist to be successful. She’s navigating her own waters, and making hardcore moves in the business, as she swims upstream to get to the next stage of her career. She may still be an underrated artist, but she’s gaining new fans with each recording project.
Xelaine seems to be hunting down new opportunities, challenges, and more exposure, while showing off her gritty raw talent. She sings with a rich soulfulness, while writing from a place of deep authenticity. Drawing from personal experiences, she obviously considers the songwriting process her therapy. She believes it, and sings it the way she does because it’s probably real.
Here on ‘DETOX’ [acapella version] she tackles the trials of romance, the obstacles of allowing it to thrive, and the pains of letting it go. This is an empowering song by a songstress mapping out her options, and it really works. Showing off her range and allowing her vocal capability to build with intensity within the arrangement’s empty spaces.
They say timing is everything, and now, with ‘DETOX’ [acapella version], this may actually be Xelaine’s moment of breaking into the mainstream as the most soulful indie songstress out here!
