Markus Scott has dropped his latest single “Bump & Grind” taken from his upcoming mixtape, “Live Life With No Regrets”. Born in New York City, Markus and his family was always on the move resulting in him constantly transferring schools. He excelled at reading and writing poetry, before discovering that he could rap when he won a freestyle battle with a signed artist at a house party. He soon learned to DJ too, and with his first check from summer youth, Markus went to a pawn shop and brought a laptop.
He then brought a DAW, and microphone from Guitar Center and began researching how to mix and edit his vocals. He dropped his first track in 2015 and then went on to release his 6 track EP “Graduation Night” in June 2016 on his graduation day.
“Bump & Grind” signals a change from his earlier releases as Markus said he concentrated on conscious material before discovering that this generation seeked something different. So he switched his style and attitude to move up his buzz in the various rap circles.
Spring through to summer is the seasons of reincarnation: ice melts, flowers bloom, warmth returns and with it, so does life. It makes sense, then, that Markus Scott would deem it appropriate to drop a player’s track like “Bump & Grind” in this period. As a project, it’s formally and sonically ambitious, smartly produced and mixed, with a captivating support video clip to match. Formally, it is innovative and sprawling. Creatively, it’s on point.
With “Bump & Grind” Markus Scott shows he’s at his best embracing spontaneity. The single seems to have a liberating effect on his talents. He flows in an easy and relaxed style, even though song’s theme of a cheating relationship is anything but relaxed.
Scott never forces the pace or unwinds into any overplayed lyrical dramatics. He narrates the story as it plays out, with the just right amount cynicism and trepidation. Markus Scott celebrates his love of his craft with scattershot abandon and barely-contained glee as he executes this track.
“Bump & Grind” is a smooth track, easy to listen to and perfect for going out, riding in the car or just chilling at home. Markus Scott did almost everything, if not all, right on this track, and I have a feeling he knows it too. So expect more goodies to come with the brand new mixtape!
