We recently sat down with Krys K, an RNB and Hiphop Songstress who recently caught the eyes and ears of global super star “Ne-Yo”. He shared her music to his millions of fans and interviewed her live on his social media channel. We had the pleasure of talking to this multi-talented singer/songwriter/rapper who has a lot to say I her music!
Hi Krys! How do you define your style of music? You definitely got your own sound!
Edgy but soulful, sometimes sexy and always sassy, but I know the Lord.
Do you have any favorites artists that you listen to that have helped to shape the kind of artist that you are?
There are so many to be honest with you, but you will always find En Vogue, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Missy Elliott, Brandy, Monica, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys and Destiny’s Child in my CD player growing up.
You wrote every single on the album. It’s sexy and sometimes even a bit controversial. Where did you find your inspiration for the lyrics and topics you cover?
There’s a quote by Dave Willis that says “A perfect marriage is just two imperfect people who refuse to give up on each other.” I’m a happily married woman so my album and all the songs that I write are relatable fictional reflections of the many faces’ marriage can have that I myself and others I know have experienced.
Recently your single caught the attention of global superstar Ne-Yo! He interviewed you and shared your music with his fans! How did that happen?
I was really blessed to be scrolling on IG (Instagram) one day that Neyo had posted that he was looking for Artists who were serious about their music journey. All he asked was for serious artists to direct message him. I definitely double dutched through my feelings for a bit but once my nerves eased up a little, I hit the send button and by the Grace of God the connection was made and he hosted a song for me and we did a live on IG for that song. It was amazing. He’s a phenomenal person so shout out to him and make sure to be on the lookout for the new fire that he is dropping soon.
And last, you are a mom and a recording artist! How do you balance between the two?
All I can say is Praise the Name of the Lord for Preschool and Kindergarten. Yo, if your kids go to school the next time when you drop them off or pick them up – make sure to tell their teachers “Thank you,” Moana-Maui style. It’s the only way I get anything done. I NEED those school time hours for recording, writing, wife stuff, home stuff, *sleeping (she said under her breath typing quietly lol).
What has been the biggest obstacle you’ve overcome in your life so far?
I wouldn’t say I’ve overcome anything yet. I would say I’m in the process of overcoming. Loneliness is the biggest obstacle in my life. The feeling of nobody knows or understands what it is like to carry this weight on my shoulders. To have these medical conditions, to have this tragic accident happen, to have a kid dealing with this life altering condition, to be and feel alone. To be a mom and a wife is to be everyone else’s world and sometimes have no world of your own to fall into and belong. Loneliness is my biggest obstacle that I’m still in the process of overcoming.
What can fans expect from you in the next year. Any new releases, albums, etc?
Fans can expect more music, more books, more poetry, more scripts, just more.
And last, where do you hope to be in your career in 5 years? 10 years?
In 5 years, I hope to still be telling stories on multiple platforms through multiple entertainment mediums successfully under my own brand and company name. I want to help secure jobs and opportunities for creatives and talented individuals here in the Bay Area. In 10 years, I hope that I could still be doing more of the same just on a bigger scale.
