When you need your Jazz neatly packaged in 3:30 with Indie Pop hooks and just enough Soul, horanVi’s 2nd single ‘Before It Lasted’ dropped on February 14th for all you hopeless romantics. This one is dreamy with a laid-back Neo soul groove, luscious vox, a rockin guitar solo, and tasty Jazz chords. FFO Jordan Rakei, Tom Misch & Snowpoet.
horanVi is an explorative genre-defying Jazz band based in London/ Bristol led by writing duo Sam Horan (guitarist & producer) & ‘Violet’ (vocalist). Their first release ‘In Blue’ recently featured on BBC Radio 6, as well as London Jazz Radio & Amazing radio UK/US.
‘Before It Lasted’ is the second single of five, taken from their forthcoming 10 track album – written, produced and mixed by Sam from his home studio in London. It’s an ambitious undertaking of eclectic compositions which refuses to toe the line between modern Jazz trends, Rock & Neo Soul Pop.
Although Jazz grounds the music and often informs the harmonic approach, much of the album lends itself to the more progressive side of Pop. Unconventional structures, cinematic elements and instrumental sections abound, and the songs never stray too far from the Blues, which permeates Violets sweet but raw edged and visceral vocals.
Improvisation, dynamic delicate and earthy textures, soaring melodies… horanVi aim to tap into the work of artists as varied as Snowpoet, Peter Gabriel, Hiatus Kaiyote, Pat Metheny, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, Elbow, Radiohead, Wilco, and Khruangbin to name a few.
