“Love Will See Us Through” is the latest single by Uncle Tadashi & Da Boyz. This love duet is sung by SandyT (Tsujimura) and Dino Bee in a call and response manner, with lyrics supplied by Mike Ige. Gabe Man (Guitar, bass guitar), Pierre Grill (Drums and recording engineer) and Dino Bee (Ukulele) all work together to create the Tropical Island and Reggae rhythm feel. Chris Yeh also steps into the arrangement on the alto sax, to give the song a breezy jazz feel.
Want to know what all the fuss is about? “Love Will See Us Through” is a good place to begin listening to a band that everyone should have been talking about since “My Old Stompin’ Ground” was released.
Mixing folky, organic instrumentation with wholesome heartfelt lyrics, Uncle Tadashi & Da Boyz craft articulate, mature pop music which they infuse with different subgenres on each different release. This time it’s a reggae influenced track, but next time it could be with an Americana twist.
By focusing on melody, their songs make for a pleasant listen, whatever genre they play, but the additional songwriting touches are what will keep fans coming back for more.
Uncle Tadashi & Da Boyz’ “Love Will See Us Through” is a track that is instantly accessible and likeable, but my appreciation for it grew even more with repeated listening. The band has a way of creating music that, at first glance, appears to be simple.
The truth is the music here is expertly littered with nuance, both vocally and musically. The song is heartfelt and earnest with the rich and clear vocals an obvious first attraction. So much of today’s music has its lyrics mumbled, drawled or whispered.
Both SandyT and Dino Bee do a magnificent job of delivering interpretations that have finely tuned diction and right on pitch singing…sans Autotune!
There is something timeless about this track, something about its beautifully pure lyrics and smooth melody that tells you that Uncle Tadashi & Da Boyz will remain fresh and good long after most of the younger, trendy pop bands start sounding stale and tired.
Like so many classic bands from past eras though, Uncle Tadashi & Da Boyz don’t reveal all of their treasures at once. Instead they hoard some jealously, only yielding them to those patient and persistent enough to keep coming back with an open mind and open ears.
“Love Will See Us Through” also makes fantastic use of the saxophone interludes. All round it’s a satisfying inclusion which leaves a good tasteful sound in your ears.
