The Golden Snake is fronted by Indian vocalist, Seema Chhokar who was born in the Thar Desert of Rajasthan. Surrounded by the traditional sounds of Folk, Desi and Indian Fusion throughout her childhood, Seema is now based out of the historical city of Prague, which has allowed her to shapeshift her talent across multiple genres. Inspired by the poetry of her father, Jagdish Chhokar , the single, “The Bow” draws on the classic Bollywood soundtracks of his youth, as well as ancient spiritual themes that have been handed down through generations.
The music contained within “The Bow”, is almost like a calling – beyond the overloading mind, the heaviness of the heart and the numerous distractions of life, into a place of refuge and conscious uplifting affluence. A track full of energy due to its motion and fluidity of sound, it takes more than just a few listens to notice all the intricacies carefully crafted into the cut.
“The Bow” features a soulful, nurturing musical journey that inspires, both deep thought, and the urge to sway your hips. Built on a meticulous and lusciously layered, throbbing psychill beat, the track could easily be included on any electronic or EDM playlist.
“The Bow” is representative of a spiritual journey through a modern musical expression. This intention combined with Seema’s soothing voice creates an impacting musical experience unlike any you may have experienced before.
Smooth oceanic swells and pads, ethereal washes of tone and spacey expanses form an atmospheric soundscape upon which are laid out some attractive melodic vocal lines and chanted phrases. The quality of this recording is outstanding, the clear pure mid-range tones being offset by the ultra-bass beat. The sound soars the heights and plumbs the depths dragging the listener along with it.
The Golden Snake’s sound connects with our primal impulses while indulging our yearning for the technological. The music is singular and unique in its approach: Lush melodic motifs drift across an insistent and banging rhythm, groove heavy bass and warm, fuzzy brass lines.
The Golden Snake also manages to convey a sense of tranquility and beauty, engaging the listener into hypnotic movement and often escalating toward a physical experience. Conceived and produced in a digital environment, the music manages to convey more humanity and organic warmth than typically found in an electronic genre.
Shimmering with cinematic qualities, “The Bow” speaks to both the mind and body. With all of the effort The Golden Snake, and composers Dominic Owen and Thomas Carr have brought to the table with this track, be prepared to keep “The Bow” on replay, discovering all the nuances within.
The Golden Snake is currently working on a release for the “Smokersblend compilation – Downtempo Smoke Breaks” due late summer. Smokersblend is a London based record label run by producer Dominic Owen (The Love Theme). The Golden Snake will also be dropping a 4 track EP later this year. The new recordings will be a mix of English and Seema’s native Hindi language alongside music from different genres and cultures.
