Supa Soop born Derrell Alexander started rapping in 2000 in his hometown Cleveland, Ohio at the young age of 14 after his father passed away. His family shortly after moved to Richmond Virginia and when his family fell on hard times, instead of turning to the streets for financial support, Soop turned to his music hustling his mix tapes.
In 2008 Supa Soop got signed to Smooth Dirty Productions, and though not releasing any material in the early stages of his career, Soop got to grace the stage with several major artists, from Method Man, Red Man, Crime Mob to Ace Hood. In 2012 Supa Soop released his first official project on “Soop Nation” and went on to shows in 2014 with Chi-Towns legend Twista and Jet Life general Curren$y.
After winning the Virginia State University’s Soul Logistic Radio ‘I Got Next Award’, he released his first LP, “Soop Nation 2”. Soop has now dropped the single, “Changes”. “Everybody goes through changes its apart of life,” says Soop. “Sometimes things change so fast you don’t know how to deal with them.” Supa Soop has that smooth voice that really works well with this track. He cleverly puts together his lyrics to make them flow simply throughout the song with no problem.
Soop is the definition of skill. His thoughts may seem random but all come together perfectly to make sense. Sometimes you wonder what in the world he’s talking about but then he manages to tie a line to a previous line and often times it takes multiple listens to notice the little nuances and connections he seems to make on every song. This, along with an excellent production, gives his music great replay value.
On “Changes” there’s no fall off and he’s clearly in a good zone right now. It shows a progression from his previous but yet is an obvious continuation. However, this track takes on its own sound and identity. Here Soop uses lots of poetic elements that invoke a nice sense of imagery and listening to him rhyme introspectively makes me ponder about my life too. His lyrical strength and style is undeniable. This track is serious and sincere with awesome lyrics everywhere.
In “Changes” Supa Soop is building his reputation for substance, artistry and meaning in the music, suggesting that these are just naturally some of the things he quests for. Overall, he is projecting a very respectable figure. This is perhaps Soop’s best track yet because he is remarkably more mature and conscious in it than at any time in the past, and the music is crisp and very enjoyable.
