Sienná, a native from Kyoto, Japan, living in Oslo, Norway, who pursues her vast musical talents for songwriting, musical production, DJing, and more, announced the release of her latest electronica album, “Q.o.S”. Recognized for her distinguishably unique sound, consisting of electronic bases, avant-garde, house, jazz, traditional Japanese, contemporary Japanese, and experimental, Sienná’s latest musical creation contains ten tracks embodying slow, groovy elements with instruments and vocals lofted over the top. All songs and texts written, performed and composed by Sienná except “Six Sense”, which has melody and texts from a Japanese traditional folk song called “Rokucho”.
I have followed Sienná, since 2013, and she has a unique talent to quickly put me under her spell of smooth beats and sonic experimentation. The lady is truly gifted in her ability to compose unique, fluid, and complete tracks that are far less abstract than they sound like at first listen.
The vast chasm that once separated accessibility from experimental electronic sounds in her music has all but vanished on “Q.o.S”. Here Sienná, has reached a place where even her most languid and effusive sounds and samples are easy digestible by the ear. Some tracks may be powerfully beat propelled and instantly engaging to both the ear and body, such as “Worlds Citizens”, “Quintessence”, “Sixth Sense” and “Eastern Play”.
While on the end of the spectrum, introspective and ruminative musical pieces like “Yes”, “Iwashimizu (石清水)”, “Kasuga (春日)” and the stunning vocal track, “PM”, will engage your mind and soul. This eclectic performer and producer, has built her career on a different type of accessibility.
Her songs are not easy to fall into like EDM booby traps, but they are like quicksand slowly and steadily engulfing listeners, before sucking each one into Sienná’s all-embracing world. Her latest release is an oasis of mind, body and soul relieving pleasures, offered as a refuge from the fusillade of trap and pop crossover beats sweeping through electronic music.
What Sienná has done with her avant-garde electronic confections is nothing short of innovative and intentionally exotic, meshing together dreamy downtempo soundscapes and rhythmic beats into distinctive forms that can be called ‘atmospheric electronic’.
It culminates into pulsating sequences that make for immersive headphone music. A deliberate mind trip meant to listen to and nod to in pleasure and sheer satisfaction. “Q.o.S” stands out clearly in the electronic panorama, bristling with vital, artistic compositions that feel like all colors of paint whipped, splattered and dripped across a gigantic canvas.
Sienná, doesn’t cease to find ways of delivering this blossoming beauty, as her songs glisten and puzzle all at the same time. What comes away from her latest release is that she has finally found herself from another musical perspective.
Underneath that creative brilliance and flair is a whole cluster of songs and sonic pleasures that doesn’t hide behind layers of hard-to-understand experimental abstraction, breaking free, “Q.o.S” shows off its true relatable colors without compromising Sienná’s intrinsic artistic intentions.
