Recently signed with Munich-based label KOSMO Records, 16 year-old LUURK, who was raised in Arizona, has freshly burst into the EDM scene with his debut single titled “One Minute”, featuring the vocal talents of Ándre. In every popular culture era, there are always a handful of artists who just plain make sense for what’s going on in music. LUURK’s unique, melodic, and dreamlike style of electronic music makes the EDM landscape of 2017 the ideal time to release his debut.
By and large, “One Minute”ft. Ándre, will satisfy those with whom his funky and infectious style will come to resonate. The fact that he’s developed such a unique and instantly recognizable sound is nothing short of surprising for someone just kicking off his career.
Though it must be remembered that LUURK has been creating EDM soundscapes since he was 11. Only time will tell whether LUURK will be able to build upon his sound tastefully without betraying fans who have fallen in love with what he’s delivered here, but it’s safe to say he’s off to a damn good start.
In the mass of music that gets thrown into the EDM, he follows in the footsteps of those artists that are pushing boundaries without sounding overwhelming. In the musical realm, experimentation is a key aspect of driving music forward as it guides listeners into hearing things they’ve potentially never heard before. This is one of the important aspects behind electronic music producer LUURK.
Is this record unique? Absolutely yes. The desire to create a unique atmosphere that does something so distinctly different from what is usually receiving radio play gives this track the momentum it possesses. LUURK’s funky bass-driven inspiration provides so much style, while Ándre’s vocal hooks adds the substance and memorability leaving listeners with a stupendous example of what real production is like.
But what makes LUURK stand out, beside his composition, is that his songwriting doesn’t seem like an afterthought, lackadaisically strewn on top of an instrumental base. Showcasing Ándre’s smooth falsetto, the song focuses on the lyrics too, with a very sing-a-longable, pop chorus.
To say that LUURK’s style verges between deep and tropical house would both very apt and somewhat inaccurate. His music carries the identifiers of the popular vocal electro-pop style that we mostly associate with the likes of Kygo and ZHU. Tracks like opener “One Minute”ft. Ándre allude clearly to this aesthetic quality of the music, and this is what will make LUURK a memorable name in EDM. This debut recording shows a creative mindset geared towards pushing the boundaries of genre.
