Bizznes: “Days In The East” (Prod. by Dez Wright) – coming into the spotlight through the back door

Twenty-four year-old Toronto artist, Bizznes, recently dropped his track, “Days In The East” (Prod. by Dez Wright). Along with the single, he also released a video clip in support of the song, which can be found on YouTube. Simply put, Bizznes is a talented masquerader, shifting visages accordingly between swift wordplay and vulnerable crooning.

“Days In The East” walks a fine line between R&B and outright Hiphop, and sits neatly in the Trap ambient. No question, Bizznes, at the young age of 24, is an amalgam of his influences mixed with his own refined voice.

There’s also the glaring fact that Bizznes has reached the point at which he can rap-sing at the level of his idols. His verses are memorable, unfolding into melodic thoughts. He especially shines when his vocals ricochet between languid revelations and Auto-Tuned flows, beaming boasts and brooding introspection.

Just like many of his peers, Bizznes is coming into the hip-hop spotlight through the back door, proving his mettle behind the mic. “Days In The East” shows a predilection for dark and cinematic soundscapes, and while he isn’t credited as a producer on the track, that job falls squarely in the hands of Dez Wright, Bizznes proves to be a talented curator of whatever beat he is working with.

Though, “Days In The East” is not designed to be groundbreaking and innovative, yet it comes pretty close to being that too. The production is great and Bizznes’ chorus hook clings to the soundscape with the warmth of a perfectly fitting glove. And at the same time he puts forth a cohesive statement of voice.

Backed by standout production and a soulfully catchy hook, this song is a testament to the songwriting and performance chops that Bizznes possesses, but here there’s room for everyone to shine including Dez Wright.

All-round, Bizznes’ sound is enjoyably unique, and the overall quality of the production is so strong it’s hard to poke any holes in it. What we have here in “Days In The East” then, is a track heavily inspired by the Trap movement, and it IS fully engrossing without ever being self-indulgent. The track is consistent and fully realized in the best possible way.
