Over the course of an impressive career, Italy’s Lorenzo Armando Aldo Bazzoni has ventured far and wide in hope of securing one thing: His musical identity. Between progressive rock, cinematic scores and classically inclined orchestral arrangements, he has hit some momentous strides. Bazzoni writes music framed around emotion and volume. His latest, “Feline Intents”, is no different. Built around monumental sound, it’s cleverly arranged, feeling dynamic and exciting.
Lorenzo Armando Aldo Bazzoni’s attitude towards experimentalism shows in the nooks and crannies of his sound on “Feline Intents” where strains of powerful ideas grow. This is another well-orchestrated piece, boisterous and playful, with the confidence to indulge both himself and the audience. This is as huge as Bazzoni’s ever sounded; taking a simple, dramatic melody and gradually adding layers upon layers of shimmering clamor.
Lorenzo Armando Aldo Bazzoni’s has certainly grown self-assured in his abilities, and while some artists struggle to fit all their influences into a distinct whole, Bazzoni confidently defies genre conventions and sticks to what he is good at; taking simple melodies and rhythms and garnishing them with an epic grandiosity. Bazzoni fiercely stakes out a very distinctive musical space of his own, while letting his influences flood into his songs.
“Feline Intents” is a remarkable balancing act, which could easily seen as a transition to maturity. At the same time Lorenzo Armando Aldo Bazzoni manages to retain all the sonic power he ever had, and adding extra emotional impact to boot. Plus Bazzoni’s signature crescendos make for a really heart-rending experience at points. The layers of sound build up over hypnotic drum grooves, holding down the heartbeat and letting the instruments entwine and build.
“Feline Intents” is a world to get lost in – a piece of music that creates a film which runs in your head.
