The event is organised by the Instituto Cervantes Sydney and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura Sydney (ICC), which have jointly commissioned two new compositions for the occasion.

SYDNEY · 5 NOVEMBER 2026

Spanish composer and concert pianist Javier Rodríguez brings The Silent Mediterranean to Sydney for a 75-minute concert experience that moves beyond the traditional piano recital. Through cinematic piano writing and poetic reflections, the programme explores the shared cultural imagination of Spain and Italy.

The two commissioned works are intended to build bridges across the Mediterranean, bringing Spanish and Italian cultural perspectives into dialogue through new music. Pietra e Mare explores the meeting of stone and sea and will receive its Sydney premiere. The concert culminates with the world premiere of The Silent Mediterranean, a work that brings together the project’s themes of landscape, memory and silence.

The programme also includes La puerta sin Puerta, a collaboration with architect Enrique Blanco de Córdova, extending the experience into a dialogue between music, space, light and material. The event offers an intimate, cross-disciplinary experience for audiences interested in contemporary classical music, architecture and cultural exchange.
