Country music, more than many other genre, is known for its lyrical wordplay. Double entendre, puns, unexpected turns of phrase – the best country songwriters don’t shy away from a literary device. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that when these artists are playing with words, they sometimes decide to play a little dirty. Then of course there is that special breed of country artist that can play a whole lot more than just a little dirty. Lisa Lyric takes audiences deep down the funniest, darkest, dirtiest and naughtiest crevasses of their warped minds.
After dropping her debut EP “Dirty. Little. Thoughts”, Lisa Lyric went on to win the Burbank Comedy Festival Regional Competition in Houston, and advanced to the Finals in the 2018 International Songwriting Competition. In 2019 she found herself opening for Stormy Daniels and then taking a trip to perform at the NY Comedy Music Festival. Then, in 2020, she partnered with Arnie Hoffman of the infamous Laughing Hyena Records to deliver her first full length album, “Hooker Heels”.
“Hooker Heels” is Lisa Lyric’s extremely razor sharp, ironic, and sometimes cleverly caustic look, at the inner workings of modern society’s twisted morals and perverted hidden minds, all done with a smile and a giggle.
It’s well known that music can help people get into a good mood and that ability is amplified when the song itself is funny. If you’re trying to cheer yourself up or are looking for a quick naughty laugh, backed by a country twang, then it doesn’t get any better than Lisa Lyric.
Lisa Lyric delivers the dirtier side of life without batting an eyelid. “Hooker Heels” is definitely not for the faint of heart. The tracks aren’t distasteful, but they definitely don’t conform to the topics typically sung by your favorite country artist. Well, to be honest, the music’s pretty much the same, it’s the narratives that will put your taboo resistance to the test.
The lyrics and commentary on “Hooker Heels” register as refreshingly raunchy. Moreover, aside from being comically entertaining, Lisa Lyric is musically and vocally talented as well.
To get into the space she is in right now, an artist has to have incredible production values, catchy tunes and, most importantly, daringly funny lyrics. Lisa Lyric has just that. Let’s get this straight right now: this album is almost entirely sexual. No topic is taboo for Lisa.
Blending country music and wildly raunchy subject matter, allows Lisa Lyric to shed light on modern day sexuality and other 21st century culture curiosities, and she leaves no stone unturned – from “Panty Sniffer” to “The Google Advice Song”, and “Milf”, she gets right down to the nitty gritty of our eccentricities. These hilariously inappropriate songs that navigate the world of desire and sex will have you doubled over in laughter…or embarrassment.
Moving forward from “Oral Fixation” to “Hurtin for a Squirtin’ and onto the closer, “Let’s All Get Naked”, Lisa Lyric delivers a wildly explicit celebration and a randy parody of all things sexy, from gentle bluesy balladry to high kicking rhythms, she nails a perfect pastiche of down and dirty Country, like no woman has ever done before her.
Genuinely endearing and unflinchingly honest, Lisa Lyric slinks her way through an album that is jam-packed with original toe-tapping tunes, covering a filthy array of hilariously treated themes, designed to be taboo-breaking showpieces.
“Hooker Heels” is an empowering shake-down of topics that many consider unthinkable, never mind practicable. Let yourself go and just listen, you’ll understand exactly where Lisa Lyric is coming from…you naughty thing!
