What are we talking about when we talk about a dance track? The term itself belies the genre’s history, a legacy of one-off’s generally forgotten in the heat of Ibiza. Dance music’s cogency dries up when considered outside of the listener experience; it’s fun to chew on, but you go elsewhere for metaphor and narrative, right? It’s an assumption that many an artist have tried to flip on its head in recent years, and the latest attempt comes in the form of Qyko’s “Rock Your Body”. Qyko is from Seville, in the South of Spain.
He started releasing EDM music last May 2016 with the multi-styled 11 track LP “Faraway Horizons”. In November 2016 he released the 6 track EP, “My World”. He has since released 6 singles which were all mixed in Miami, among them, Rock Your Body”.
Even if the name doesn’t sound familiar, you’ll be able to place the music. This single moves you. And it doesn’t bash you over the head with played out candy that you’ve heard countless times over… it does it subtly, with those old school sounding synths.
Qyko keeps building and building, layering the music in ways that you never thought possible. As each element on the track builds, you’ll feel your heart-rate build with it. And just when you feel the music’s about ready to level off, he comes in with the next build, pushing the sound to another level.
I’ve never found myself exclaiming “Yeah!” out loud as the track breaks and builds. Whereas many house tracks are basic beats passed off as music, Qyko‘s mix is music by every definition of the word.
It keeps you interested, it keeps you wondering what’s coming next, and because he’s so adventurous in his craft, he knows what you want, and delivers mercilessly.
The track sounds playful, and you’ll find yourself moving to the music right from the first bar, and it’ll make you feel good. And after all, isn’t that the reason why we listen to dance music? It’s an escape, a means to feel euphoric and happy to be alive.
Qyko delivers the soundtrack to that vibe, and makes it worth your while. If you already know Qyko’s work, then you should already have this, but if you’re new to the undeniably sexy sound of Qyko’s music, this would be a great place to start if you want to hear one of his best. It’s quite hard to believe that he only started producing a year ago, as he already sounds like an electronic music veteran!
