Gamesta Ent Recording artist Denard Dapoet aka Vin-O is ready to drop his debut single ‘Rear View Mirror’ from the Mixtape EP #DOAP/BOG ( Death Of A Poet / Birth Of A Gamesta). #DOAP/BOG and ‘Rearview Mirror’ will be available via ITunes and all digital sites. Official release is set for late December 2016. This is an extremely focused yet diverse record that shines in many areas; one is Vin-O showing his amazing vocabulary, metaphors, wordplay, emotion, and intelligence constantly. The other is the production, which sits behind the rapper and drives the rhymes ahead incessantly.
I’ve now heard this track on numerous occasions during the last few days, and still can’t decide if it’s more entertaining or more informative. Music, and rap music in particular, has been the canvas, brushes and paint used by artists to communicate their thoughts, state of mind as well as their community’s social and political condition.
But at some point the brush, paint and canvas became more important than the pictures artists wanted, and needed to draw. Vin-O addresses this phenomenon with ‘Rearview Mirror’ by paying particular attention to the picture he is painting, while still making sure he’s using the best brush, paint and canvas he can lay his hands on.
Always inspirational and uplifting, Vin-O is willing to take risks and challenge hip-hop. Something every artist should do. Evolve and bring something new to the table. Vin-O does just that on ‘Rearview Mirror’.
He has a gift not even the rappers who have been around longer than him possess. He has a way of writing that puts everyone in their place, ad makes you understand the real mechanics of hip hop and the heart the music has. He’s smart, witty and a more talented emcee than most of your run of the mill underground rappers.
If you were looking for some booty-shaking, commercial radio club-banger about ignorance and bullshit then maybe this joint is not for you. But if you still wanted a banger with something intelligent to say, well then you’re on the right track!
For those who feel as emotionally attached to hip-hop, this is an incredibly powerful track. Hip Hop used to be about creativity and speaking your perspective, and Vin-O is simply taking the craft back to its roots on ‘Rearview Mirror’. Get this track and play it over three or four times and then come to a conclusion about it, for yourself.
