Shyla Day is a talented pop/rock songwriter, performer, and recording artist based out of San Diego, California. Shyla is one of those artists that seep in under the pop-rock radar, and could so easily become a sensation based on pure talent.
Her solid single “Kiss Me”, that blends a polished rock instrumental featuring the band Noir, as well as Jamie Shadowlight on the violin, was produced by Brian Rumsey Audio. The track has splatters of pop and rock woven together, and cemented in place by Shyla Day’s lovely voice.
The production of “Kiss Me” is stunning and the arrangement of the instruments flow in such an incredible way and natural form you might believe that perfection is what you hear. From the beginning all its way through to the end the music here is an unforgettable experience.
However before I jump into conclusions about the song let me tell you that this girl is so talented on her own terms. Apart from singing the song, rather divinely, Shyla also wrote it. It is because of this kind of music coming up from such a young girl, than we can expect a bright future for music itself.
I’ve been missing this kind of sound: A young artist who has a strong voice that can span a wide range, and who understands vocal dynamics. In particular, Shyla Day has a very pretty voice – it’s a little wavery and girlish in the softer parts of the song, but she sculpts it into a flickering, roaring presence in the louder, soaring choruses.
And she has a knack for evocative lyrics too, while the instrumentation from Noir is a gorgeous accompaniment – lots of rich, swirling sounds and straight-ahead rock in places, usually depending on the strong electric guitar riffs and the solid drumming.
Jamie Shadowlight adds to the ethereal edge with her violin – it also helps give the song a warmer, richer and epic sound, rather than just straight rock-pop.
Shyla Day’s “Kiss Me” really shows why she should be getting so much more attention across either side of the pond — it’s passionate, eclectic and a lovely piece of work. There is an intimacy and warmth she projects, combined with a great power. The quality of Shyla Day’s serenading is stunning, and her vocal range is immense.
The originality of the music, combined with its incredible dynamics and rainbow-like audio layering, will make you feel like you are in the middle of the coolest rock concert ever – right in your own living room. And as an unexpected bonus, it sounds like she’ll only get better from here on!
