Music has been an important part of Ariel Ryder’s life. She started recording at 13 and has since worked with Rev. Lena Mclin, the Artful Dodger and Grammy winning producer Narada Michael Walden. She has sung a theme song aired on CBS Television, as well as performing a song for the Dance Platinum group JLM.
And in between she has found the time to release her own solo material – one of the songs being “Earthquake”. The track easily showcases Ariel’s vocal control and transitions. She shines throughout showing off her chest voice and control over her diaphragm and voice projection. Her lower range is amazing and is featured sparingly to make room for track tempo changes and switches, which this track does exceedingly well.
Though catchy, “Earthquake” is more a product of an artist who is forsaking over-commercialized packaging, top 40, mainstream pop sales in exchange for the realization of a goal and dream made real. However, that does not deter this track from a successful production and succeeds where most tracks of this caliber don’t, by offering a strong overall performance.
Listening to her other songs, it also becomes clear that Ariel Ryder opts for a collection of songs that have longevity, and are easily accessible to the listener instead of what most Pop or R&B songs are characterized by – overly hyped sub-par music.
If “Earthquake”, and the rest of Ariel’s material, was projected to offer a strong showing of her talent, and be directly accessible to the audience, then Ariel Ryder not only achieved this, she also succeeds where others have not by stepping out from behind the notoriety of any producer’s name and showcases herself.
Her music also testifies the fact that she refuses to be pegged, tied down, or labeled into any one box. She sings pop just as much as she can sing R&B.
Ariel’s artistic journey has been colored by experience which easily shows. She’s comfortable enough being herself and that is evident in her choice of songs. It’s also obvious that she had a great time recording “Earthquake”.
Extremely accessible, this single-handedly is one of the best tracks in her catalog for its bold arrangement, and execution. Ariel Ryder does what she does best- sing from the heart. And It doesn’t get any better than that.
