Denny Strickland’s new track, Harley Quinn, dropped on Friday 25th October:
His inspiration for the song comes from the character Harley Quinn in DC comic-book movie Suicide Squad, which was released in 2016. Denny explains, “At the time I wrote this song, I was watching Suicide Squad and I really liked Margot Robbie’s performance. I imagined her drinking gin and smoking in the club like the bad bitch she is and the lyrics just came to mind. The rest of the song just flowed out from there referencing Louis Vuitton, Lamborghini, Johnny Cage (Mortal Kombat) and my favorite mustang Fox body 5-0….” The song has arrived at a very relevant time of year, given there are millions of Harley Quinn’s running around for Halloween.
Named one of Rolling Stone’s “Top 10 Artists to Watch,” and distinctively, a “Country Artist You Need to Watch”. Strickland has quickly gained national attention for his daring innovative ways of fusing music types and techniques. His latest single, the R&B influenced country anthem Don’t You Wanna (featuring Juicy J), is an exemplary example of his technique as he continues pushing the boundaries of music genres.
Strickland has become notorious for seamlessly taking elements from a variety of genres and creating his own distinct sound. The Nashville-raised artist released his first LP, California Dreamin in August 2018. Strickland continues to have a knack for party-friendly anthems and doesn’t try to hide his affinity for everyone from Lana Del Rey-to-Timbaland on songs that bear heavy pop and electronic influences.
The style of Harley Quinn reminds us of the cross-genre track Old Town Road by country sensation Billy Ray Cyrus and rap hero Lil Nas X, who became pioneers in blending country and rap. Paving this unique fusion into public demand, the track raced to the top of the charts worldwide. Denny Strickland’s Harley Quinn could follow a similar path as he incorporates his West Coast culture and his country roots, and we have every hope that he will rise to the top and continue bridging musical gaps.
