“Dripping in ’70s psych-rock, the Jersey City band, BLUEOX, tap into something murky and melodic” –American Songwriter
New York, NY – BLUEOX is a psych-rock band channeling the spirit of 70’s-era Pink Floyd, My Morning Jacket, and Fela Kuti. The band’s most recent single “Fearless,” a Pink Floyd tribute premiered with Juxtapoz. Their singles “Black Star Road” premiered with American Songwriter, and their song “Walk Tall” was featured in Variety on Rough Trade’s ‘Talk – Action = Zero’ compilation in support of the Black Visions Collective.
“BLUEOX’s sound is unique in all the ways music should be” –The Further
At its core, BLUEOX is Kieran Sullivan (Vocals, Guitars, Bass) and Donny Dykowsky (Guitars, Bass, Vocals, Production.) This Jersey City band’s eclectic music is visceral and melodic, and their live shows are unpredictable and worthy of premier jam band status. BLUEOX is set to release their soulful, psychedelic, melody-infused debut album on July 16.
“A pretty fantastic ride” -Juxtapoz
“BLUEOX Soothes Souls…BLUEOX is making their presence felt, and they want you to know that it’s only going to get better from here” — https://v13.net/2021/07/blueox-soothes-souls-with-their-agogo-music-video-premiere/
To accompany the release the band is premiering a video for the song “Agogo.” “The video says it all. Put the record on, let the music put you in motion. It’s muy bueno,” says Sullivan. Dykowsky adds “It’s an afrobeat song with layered rhythms and group vocals cradling an inter-dimensional love story.” See the video premiering now at V13 here: https://youtu.be/ca_4EBeb198
BLUEOX delivers an inspired set of songs that nods to rock’s past with fresh eyes, haunting melodies and blood harmonies that imbue each song with a life truly earned.
“A musical odyssey” -Cryptic Rock
“It was important for every song to tell a story, and to bring the listener to a place and time. This album is a collection of songs we wanted to hear but didn’t exist.” says Dykowsky. Sullivan adds, “This album is a surreal emotional conversation with the listener, and a true reflection of what someone will experience at our live shows.”
“Grungy distorted guitars and a sexy Prince-like falsetto collide on the undulating “Panic Attack,” juxtaposed with the stripped-down acoustic ballad “The List,” while the softly beguiling and pastoral “Fly On” recalls the Moody Blues” –NJ.com
BLUEOX was named after Kieran’s blue Ford pick up truck, and the fated first session took place on April Fools Day, 2018 – the day that truck was stolen. “I met Donny at a local coffee shop, and we had an inspired chat about music production and our influences,” says Kieran. “From there we hit my studio, threw up some mics, and 2 hours later we had written and recorded our first song ‘Whatever It Is,’ a cinematic piece that pays tribute to our heroes,” says Donny.
