Tetrykx is from St. Lucia, a tiny island in the Caribbean and he grew up and lived in the capital, Castries, for the better part of twenty-six years. He was the second of four children and a family who lived in a one- bedroom house with a very hard working mother, who did her best without any male presence. Tetrykx spent a part of his youth in a juvenile center and for lack of funds had to drop out of school, which he started very late anyway.
He eventually became a skilled carpenter and moved to Scotland. He has been through 2 failed marriages and a paternity struggle that financially brought him to his knees. Tetrykx who has found his only solace in music, recently dropped his single “Go The Distance”.
As can be expected, taken his life situation into consideration, the track examines his grind and his resilience in surviving and his problems and overcoming the obstacles that will be put in his way – both in his personal and artistic life. The hip hop track has a slight slow-burning reggae flavor which Tetrykx raps and sings his way through.
Due to being an underground artist, it’s obvious that Tetrykx’s name never comes up in conversations about this generation’s most influential crossover artists, yet he does a great job of bridging the gap between his various musical and cultural influences from both sides of the ocean.
Besides, between Tetrykx’s music and private life, there is enough material to make you think, or to make you cry, and even to make you dream, and at the same time he has songs that will move a party, and that’s no small thing.
“Go The Distance”, of course, is no party track, but something to seriously ponder over – “Seven days a week, I’ll go the distance because I’m persistent. That’s why I go the distance,” sings Tetrykx.
The Caribbean artist, who took his name from the building blocks game Tetrice, seems to have everything in common with the game’s principles and aspirations – as he steadily builds his life and musical career patiently, block by block, song by song. “Go The Distance” is just another level in the process!
