Originally from the UK, Paul Bailey aka P Bailey siphoned his first musical influences from Motown and Muscle Shoals, as well as Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. The singer with a 5 octave range, and no formal training, developed his singing and writing style by listening to artists like, Ron Isley, Donny Hathaway, Luther Van dross, Prince and James Brown. Bailey had his first major break when Rick James sampled his track ‘Part time Lover’ for the sound track of the movie Colors.
P Bailey was soon storming the Dance Charts in the UK where he landed at #3 with a track called ‘Get on Board’ co-produced by DJ Robby Demlakian, and recorded with his group Walter P.P.K. It also won Bailey the Professional Publishers & Songwriters award from Factor, a grant foundation. He has recently signed a Licensing and distribution deal with Sound Republica for Korean territories.
P Bailey hasn’t stopped making music since he started out, and has been dropping some amazing dance music worldwide. The latest in line, is his EP “Make You Sweat”, featuring the single “Shake Ur Body”, remixed into four distinctive EDM flavors.
The opening original mix, is a minimal arrangement, with warm keys, a resonant piano, broiling bass, and rattling percussion underscoring P Bailey’s sultry vocals, as he gets down and dirty on the storyline.
“I can make you sweat like never before. I can make you drip right down to the floor. Make your body soak through your pants. Shake, shake your body, and do your dance. Do you wanna get down with me?” asks P Bailey, ready to work you up into a sweat with his latest track.
The combination of the bouncy beat, and P Bailey’s sizzling understated vocals, go on to create some of the sweetest soul and rhythmic dance grooves laid down on this year. P Bailey’s vocals are simply incredible, sounding effortlessly stunning, without once rising his tone to a shout.
Often a remix can shine a whole new light on a track, and this is what is credibly achieved with “Shake Ur Body” – Extended Version, which sticks close to the original version.
“Shake Ur Body” – Alternative Version, featuring Mo’ Spence, gives us a female vocal version, which is as sweet and sexy as the original, while adding horns and other subtle twists and turns into the mix. “Shake Ur Body” – Staccato Version, gathers all the musical movements of the previous versions and presents them in one fully fleshed out instrumental version, which totally bangs.
Surprisingly, in contrast to what one would expect from a set of EDM song mixes, none of these tracks break into the four minute mark. Meaning P Bailey has trimmed off all the musical fat, delivering us lean, solid cuts of groovy music, which never overstay its welcome, and will actually have you asking for more, by the time the final track finishes.
