Mayden Hollywood crafts songs that are emotive, without being overwhelming

Mayden Hollywood is a British born American producer, singer-songwriter and a former A&R professional. Today Mayden delivers his own crossover musical creations, with his latest release being, “Hollywood”. Mayden enlisted the help of music producers Skip Saylor and Ian Blanch in addition to session musicians Thomas Harris and Mike Reason, with backing vocals from Jolina Star, to give the song it’s solid production basis.

Once you get past the almost-precious trappings of the sound, you’ll notice how much Mayden is trying to say with this song, as he looks at all the paradoxes and contrasts that afflict tinsel town.

You know how we always think about which songs we would take with us if we were stranded on a desert island? Well this one would definitely be on my short list at least. Mayden comes across as the real deal – a talented singer, song-writer, and performer. In an ocean of slim-talented wannabes, hiding behind musical special effects, Mayden stands out as a glistening shore of quality, depth, and passion-derived musical talent. He has a gorgeous voice fueled with verve.

Additionally, his lyrics are not just vacuous clichés strung together over a repetitive beat. The song has depth, feeling and realness indicative of personal experience. That’s not to say that “Hollywood” is not catchy or infectious too. On the contrary, I have been playing this over and over. Moreover Mayden shows a creative knack for brilliant and melodic harmonies.

One thing I appreciate about Mayden and the production crew here is the ability to keep the track cooking all the way through without ever going on the boil. In other words, neither Mayden nor any other of the musicians blows their load everywhere; instead they keep everything rolling ahead steadily. It’s really hard to imagine that there’s any rock and roll singer out there as smooth and as cool as Mayden Hollywood.

“Hollywood” is not necessarily ground breaking but that does not mean to say that it’s not affecting. The track is proof that Mayden can write lyrics and craft songs that are emotive, without having to be overwhelming.  In a time when the radio is filled with tuneless and mindless pop acts, Mayden Hollywood brings us a finely-tuned, well-executed mainstream rock song. My only surprise is why I haven’t heard this on the radio yet!
