“So Much More”, Candice Russell’s first album, has had worldwide exposure with its songs being played across the globe on a plethora of radio stations. An award-winning songwriter, and a testimony to her affirmed talent, Candice also went to Hollywood to compete on American Idol, Season 11. She has freshly released her brand new pop EP, “Ignite”, which was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, with hit songwriter and producer, Kenny Lamb, and engineer, Chris Rowe, who is also working on Taylor Swift’s latest album and has engineered some of her #1 hits.
Wow, Candice just goes from strength to strength with her work and “Ignite” in my opinion, is her best to date. If you like Candice Russell and I’m sure you probably do, due to you being on this page and reading the review. Do yourself a favor and buy this EP as soon as possible.
Candice’s voice is improving with age, the vocals on this EP are just stunning in its clarity, diction and tone. She has an uncanny ability to make you feel when she sings, and a beautiful sense of musicality built right into her artistic armor.
“Ignite” is a very enjoyable EP, and Russell fans, and newcomers, should not hesitate. The EP is quite diverse and different, while being euphoric and bold. It’s a real soulful collection of pop gems that’s more nuanced and better crafted than most modern pop.
The sound quality is extremely good, and never heavy handed on the compression thanks to the Producer and Mastering engineer. On each song, whether sad or joyous, Candice’s performances are so enticing, without ever becoming painfully rhetorical or vulgarly pornographic, like many of her contemporaries.
Every song here has the type of arrangement that sounds like it’s going to show us ulterior layers, the more it’s played.
Starting with the opening title track, “Ignite” – a synth-pop gem filled with strong hooks and an insistent kick drum beat. “Magnetic” kicks the EP into radio-ready overdrive, with its upbeat and bouncing anthemic style, which has Top 40 written all over it. This is modern pop at its finest.
With its heartfelt killer vocals, harmonies, sharp writing and production, you’re in for a real treat with “Thanks For The Heartbreak”. But hey, wait, it actually gets better! Candice’s exceptional vocal talent, technique and control – infiltrating emotion, sincerity and truth in her delivery are totally unveiled on “We Keep On Dancing”.
And when she closes the show down with the piano-driven ballad “Through My Eyes”, giving us yet another delivery of such powerful music, the progression in her style and depth becomes clearly evident to all.
My conclusion is there’s not a dud, filler or throwaway track to be found on “Ignite”, and the pacing of the EP is excellent, which builds up and then settles nicely to the finale. This is a fully conceived recording. I think these tracks show Candice’s talent and ability the way it should be showcased.
Furthermore the release of this EP goes to prove that she is no one trick pony. It’s clear that Candice Russell is here to stay and continues to develop with each release. True talent will eventually rise, and soon she will conquer all before her.
