After taking an extended break from recording, Allana got a surge to record the new inspirational soul song “Upgrade My Life.” After her return from living in Europe with her husband, In 2016, Allana realized she had songs, poems, and other creative materials she wanted to share with the entire world. The song “Upgrade My Life” was written as a reminder for Allana to use her voice and talents to positively affect the world around her. And ever since, she has been doing just that.

“Upgrade My Life” (UPML) was produced by Master P Music. Allana got the inspiration to create UPML after launching an initiative. The initiative was to inspire leaders and entrepreneurs to build and keep striving for success, even if their goals seem impossible. She shared the #UPML song during a live conference at the International Women Build Confidence Conference, and the crowd instantly approved of the soul-lifting soul song. Allana sees her music as a bridge between dreams and possibility. She hopes that this song will remind artists, entrepreneurs, and creators to kick-start their goals at any age, regardless of the odds or the perceived-odd against them. The words of the song do a great job in delivering this message.

“I remember when they told me there was nothing for me.
No hopes to keep on dreaming, and I was way past 30
I sat in my room and began to cry.
Then caught myself again and said I will upgrade my life.”

These words resonate with Allana’s ability to reveal the burning questions that many mature artists may feel about reaching new levels as artists. Allana uses a first-person narrative to paint a striking and motivating picture through the lyrics of UPML. She doesn’t shy away from telling her personal story in the song, and she drives the message very directly.

“I remember when they told me there was nothing for me/ Was supposed to be done dreaming and way past thirty/ Was sittin’ in the room and began to cry/… I would upgrade my life…”

The simplicity in the lyrics, melody, and music only makes it very absorbable for even the least sophisticated mind. Also, the most sophisticated – the simplicity exerts a significant force in pushing the message right into the listeners’ minds. The Chorus is more or less an anthem, as it is significantly very catchy. The instrumental on its own is quite simple, with very few or no melodic distractions. Allana uses a relatively simple and minimally colored (subtly melismatic) vocal style that aims at giving a soothing feeling while delivering the ultimate message, “Upgrade My Life.”

Allana brings in a long incubating passion for music, motivation, and self-development in this song. Every line delivers a powerful message of hope and self-development while still maintaining its simplicity and catchiness. Although delivered by a female vocalist, UPML is basically not from a “female point of view” but from a more universal and conventional one. This is a song that would speak to anyone regardless of their sex and orientation.
