Lorenzo Armando Aldo Bazzoni records are like stumbling through beautiful, sprawling and bombastic valleys you’ve seen before, yet keep returning with even more enthusiasm. Not only is the basic nature inspiring, but you can barely wait for all the new things you’ll find this time around. His latest video single release “High Strung” continues to bring back a degree of complex prog-rock and borderline classical songwriting from the 70’s and 80’s, which was a wonderful time for musical exploration, both in theory and actual execution. Bazzoni is forging a career by pushing artistic boundaries, while remaining listenable to a wide variety of ears, which is the real trick and should be considered high achievement.
“High Strung” is a continuation of Lorenzo Bazzoni’s bombastic instrumental rock, adding enough new experiments to keep things interesting, but staying close enough to his well-hewn sound to ensure a cozy familiarity. He creates a highly dynamic, textured, and detailed soundscape while still reaching the furious intensity of his best songs. Actually, to be fair, “High Strung” manages to step up the cinematic grandeur of his sound even further.
Adding kinetic keys, evolving choral passages, and thundering percussion to the mix, “High Strung” culminates in a gorgeously chaotic fever pitch. It’s become something of a cliché to state how consistent the Italian composer is, and how over time, his ability to carry on producing such high-quality output becomes all the more remarkable as is his way of never massively departing from what is undeniably a recognizable Lorenzo Bazzoni’s sound, while always managing to keep things fresh and take subtle musical detours, by expanding his experimentation.
