Love it or hate it, you cannot deny that Plastics of Hollywood are gaining traction and making serious waves in the entertainment industry. Spearheaded by Los Angeles, California, Talent manager and producer Marcela Iglesias, the community of plastic surgery enthusiasts are spreading their reach into the film, TV and music spheres. From Ken dolls to Jessica Rabbit and Britney Spears lookalikes Plastics of Hollywood have spent millions of dollars on surgery and aesthetic procedures altering and adapting their looks. Their aim is to simply feel happy and fulfilled in bodies they adore. By the very nature of its scope Plastics of Hollywood positively embrace LGBT and drag communities. Now to further celebrate their joyful and prosperous existence, Marcela Iglesias has released the EDM anthem “Human Doll” (feat. Eric ‘Well Written’ McCoy).
The song kicks off in aptly fashion: “Mirror, mirror on the wall, I want to be a human doll”, a bubbling keyboard and bassline sets in, and then the welcoming message arrives: “Welcome to the fantastic world of the Plastics of Hollywood. A place where your fantasy becomes a reality. Are you ready? Come play with us!”
A crash and roll of the percussion launches us straight into the funky and playful beat as the sultry, cutesy voice of Marcela teases our senses, trading melodic lines with the edgier raps of Eric ‘Well Written’ McCoy. This song is fun, bouncy and just all around enjoyable to listen and dance to.
From the placement of the accent notes, to the perfect throb in Marcela’s voice, to the electronic sounds, and on to the rapping and hand claps. The range of lyrics and musicality is really uplifting and empowering, as it brings the Plastics of Hollywood message to the masses.
The positive exuberance is clear: “You really need to stop hating. You’re the only one in here faking. I’m looking good, feeling good, like the Plastics of Hollywood”. I don’t think “Human Doll” could spell out the message clearer. So let well alone and get on with your own miserable life.
There is a hardly a trick from the EDM and Pop bag of song crafting that Marcela Iglesias and her production team do not draw upon. The song is both modern, yet somehow fantastically nostalgic. The result is a song, and music that sounds deeply familiar and fresh at the same time.
And while the music will definitely put a swing in your hips and a kick in your step, Marcella’s voice is more agile than I expected it to be. It will be exciting to see where the Argentinian born dares to go from here with her Plastics of Hollywood project.
This track is about self-love and self-determination, and mainly about being the person you want to be. Listen to your inner voice, and don’t let the outside world tell you who you need to be. Take a cue from Marcela Iglesias, who is steadily fulfilling her dreams by being who she wants to be!
