Gianluca Corrao: “Simona e Milano” – a bittersweet pop song

Gianluca Corrao is a singer from Genoa, Italy, who has always had a passion or music since a young age, participating at Karaoke evenings. In 2012 after a long experience paying his dues, Gianluca made his professional debut with the release of his single “Desy” in collaboration with indie label, Maria Records. He followed that up with his debut album and another single entitled “La Verità” which was supported by a videoclip. From there on moving forward, Gianluca has had many of his songs climbing the various local and national charts as well as achieving a fair amount of success on iTunes and Amazon.

He has had national radio play and collaborated with important national and international artists, producers and filmmakers along the way to his 4th album which is set to release in autumn of 2017.

In the meantime between 2016 and 2017 Gianluca Corrao released two singles the single “Amanti d’estate” and “Simona e Milano” on which he collaborated with Francesco Mignogna e Giovanni Germanelli. The songs immediately shot up the Airplay Charts and entered onto the iTunes chart as well.

The music video of “Simona e Milano” was premiered on Italian channel TgCom, featuring Italian Big Brother 13 contestant, Mia Cellini. Gianluca would be classified a singer-songwriter or ‘cantautore’ in Italy.

Apart from being self-penned, his songs are strong on melody and harmony, as well as having extremely picturesque narratives. These are defining traits – appreciated on a global scale – of Italy’s legendary singer-songwriters.

Corrao’s songs are bittersweet and introspective where you will find heartbreak and longing. “Simona e Milano” in particular, describes the narrator’s relationship with an escort, who he’d like to make his own and not share with anyone else, realizing of course, that his dream is only an illusion.

“Amanti d’estate” is pretty much what the title describes, or rather, a song about ‘summer lovers’. Corrao’s songs are musically lush, with dynamic, sweeping arrangements and solid, soaring vocals. The melodies themselves are catchy and easy on the ear. Just a couple of listens and you’ll be singing along to the choruses, without a doubt.

The music makes you want to wander the streets of some European city late at night pondering the meaning of love, although you could also easily dance to quite a few of them. There’s obviously no doubting of sound quality either, as Gianluca Corrao’s music production levels are extremely high for an independent artist – As is the quality of his video clips.
