Jackpot $unday has been exposed to all types of music since a very young age – Rock, Rap, Soul, Jazz, or Heavy Metal, all lit up his passionate fire. However Jackpot wanted to create a modern lane combining his two favorite art forms – Hip-Hop and Rock. From that mindset, the track “Greenlight”, was born. Jackpot $unday who has worked with several local artists, is also currently working on his first solo album, “XI.III”.
Divided between the rock and hip hop idea, the track – co-produced by Strong Symphony and Chauncey Mahan Jr. – morphs itself into slow burning trap banger. In fact the song is a premium example of the finer qualities of contemporary hip hop.
Jackpot $unday doesn’t seem just interested in imitating the production styles of current hit-making hip-hop artists, but rather trying to add something notable of his own. While he clearly respects the current crop of modern crossover hip-hop, it sounds like he has his own artistic thing to say.
In true maverick style, Jackpot $unday comes roaring out of the blocks on the first bars of “Greenlight”, like a man on fire. His flow is fast, extremely energetic and highly contagious. When it comes to bringing the energy and getting you to groove, Jackpot $unday is one of those urban artists who really knows how to get the job done. This track is a brilliant display of his talent and ability to tap into any genre he wants.
Where many tracks today get bogged down in maximalism, the production here is dark, gritty and restrained. Allowing Jackpot to deliver a compelling turn with biting vocals drenched in lyrical napalm. The sticky verses are impregnated with heavy sexual innuendo and plush hedonistic tendencies, so buckle-up your belt it you’re one of the sensitive kind, while the rest of us can just wallow in its self-indulgent pleasures.
“Greenlight” is a roller coaster ride of an experience, with an endless amount of song highlights, whether it is the indelible hook here or a timely verse there. This is a track that becomes addictive. Getting better with a ninth and tenth listen; meanwhile Jackpot $unday embraces the template for contemporary rap, finding his niche.
Overall, “Greenlight” is a solid, game-changing project, as Jackpot $unday shows that he is one of the few artists who can flawlessly integrate all of his influences and create a project which is an absolute banger.
