TeraVirus is a Denver, CO alternative rock collective delivering progressive elements, and a powerful message – all the while staying accessible to a wide array of audience. The band has released their single, “The Painter”, to be featured on their upcoming EP which is currently in the mastering process. Singer Melissa shines on this single together with guitarist Alex and drummer Nick. Though rock music can often times be found stale from an over-saturated market and radio, TeraVirus brings a new take to the genre with much ease.
“The Painter” is a hard hitting song that both showcase grand musicianship, and sublime vocal work. Melissa moody and ethereal vocals leave a haunting echo in the listener’s heart, as she sings both profound and sometimes heartfelt lyrics over smashing drums and dirty guitars.
The track offers a melody and driven groove that gets retained in your mind long after listening. The idea that rock and roll is dead obviously isn’t known to TeraVirus, as they prove that rock music with high intelligence is not only plausible, but executable.
The music mixes the perfect blend of quiet-then-soaring vocals with rough around the edges guitar riffs and a confident, driven and twisted rhythm that only helps to push the pleasantries of the music to the forefront.
With “The Painter” a sort of a teaser for the upcoming EP, it’s clear there’s a lot more to be had from this band, and each follow up is only destined to be better. Is it just me or does it seem like the best rock in recent years comes out from a list of hot female fronted alternative rock bands?
“The Painter” is an absolute spine tingler, with a great vocal, full of sullen attitude and sass. This girl is a huge talent, and shows her range throughout this album. What makes the song so enjoyable is that it has rhythmic variation, little twists and nods that keep your interest high, and there is a vibrancy and honesty to this, something heartfelt rather than manufactured.
I have rarely been so positively enthused by a new (for me anyway) band. This is not an overproduced, auto-tuned, synthesized, blahblahblah record. This is gritty, alt rock and roll by a band that has already found its groove and established its musical identity.
