Anybody who has heard Natalie Jean’s album “Unafraid”, will remember the diversity of the tracks that frequented that release. They are all-intense, all fleshed-out arrangements, that problably represented Natalie’s best all-round collection of songs so far. From that album you would also remember the cutting edge, eletro-pop single “Red Room” . A track that never resolves into a shameless pumping session, but full of ideas dragged from deep emotional effect, with subtleties that crawl out slowly but steadily.
The hidden lyrical cues to uncover its beauty are scattered from verse to chorus, making it a flavor that one keeps coming back to savor in a different way each time. Natalie’s voice here will give you chills with its wildly addictive phrasing. To sum it up, “Red Room” was just about as perfect as it could be.
So when I read that Natalie Jean has released “Red Room Remix”, I tended to become nervous, why would she fix something that is not broken, I thought? Well, she doesn’t fix it in as much as she puts some more shine into it!
“Red Room Remix” is the kind of track you’ll fall head-over-electronic-heels for, and after just one listen you’ll quickly understand why everyone will be lusting after this dynamic EDM reworking.
As someone who has etched every pulsating moment of the original “Red Room” into his brain, I can only say that the remix’s result matches its ambition. It wanted to give you chills, make you dance, and even make you ponder on the occasion- and it totally succeeds!
This Natalie Jean, revamped, reloaded and stuck into the Goth of techno-dance. The flamboyant rhythm is designed to propel and prop up. It gets louder and more clamorous as it progresses, until you notice its sudden girth with trills of synths and Natalie’s strikingly resonating choruses.
Sustaining a remarkable degree of structural tension over the course of the song’s cycle, “Red Room Remix” is a track built upon contrasts – The upbeat rhythmic effects-filled soundscape and the almost melancholic and melodic vocal. It’s a stylistic decision that works rather well.
Moreover Natalie Jean and her production team understand how to use these choices to define a distinct, purposeful aesthetic, rather than simply using them as a gimmick.
As always, Natalie Jean is technically peerless and versatile, maintaining her power and flare throughout and crushing every classy electronic jam she’s put in front of on the “Red Room Remix”.
