Anthony Nelson & The Overcomers is an American contemporary Gospel group from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where they blend soft rock, folk, pop and soul together to make their own brand of contemporary praise and worship. Their songs have ranked on the national Nielsen Soundscan sales chart and national BDS, Mediabase and DRT airplay charts. The ensemble was founded by songwriter, worship leader, multi-instrument musician, composer and producer Anthony J. Nelson. Anthony comes from strong gospel roots that consist of his late grandmother Mrs. Elizabeth Brown and his late mother Mrs. Joyce Brown Nelson, both noted gospel vocalists and choir leaders.
With a string of smash singles in their catalog already, Anthony Nelson & The Overcomers have just dropped their latest single “Undeserved”. Once again this collective delivers a stunningly beautiful and melodic voice accompanied by gifted background singers as well as impressive musicians.
This track is masterfully penned, with an absolute awesome vocal delivery. It’s triumphant worship from beginning to end. The music and lyrics are penetrating and encouraging. This track will draw you closer to and deeper into God, and you will feel the spirit, gift and calling in every word that has been written and sung.
As a lifelong musician who has traveled the world, I have an appreciation for listening to skilled musicians performing their craft. But beyond the musicianship – which is at the highest level on any of Anthony Nelson & The Overcomers releases – there is an anointing that is apparent even when just listening to the previews of their songs.
The collective brings a powerful dimension to their praise and worship efforts through spiritual warfare. The lyrics to “Undeserved” have the power to break bondages and bring you to a new level in your walk with God. I cannot underestimate or overemphasize the spiritual weaponry that you hear over and over in this song.
“And I thank you for your sacrifice, forever I’ll worship. I don’t deserve your goodness. I don’t deserve your faithfulness”, are words Anthony Nelson & The Overcomers submit to the Lord in their worship. The lyrics are backed by soft, mellow guitars, beautiful pad sounds, and builds by adding more music at it progresses.
And as the song moves on, The Overcomers bring on more declarations of faith and submission. Anthony Nelson & The Overcomers are gifted and powerful, yet humble. This track is so fluid. It just flows with the same spirit of their previous release.
Anthony Nelson is a true worshiper and his songs are relevant and pertinent. Moreover the music here will appeal to anybody who has a penchant for R&B or smooth Urban flavored sounds.
