I love it when you get a sense of what type of music an artist loves to listen to. Clearly Dasha loves the music that she grew up on. I’m guessing that she is living inside her dreams when she produces an album that crosses several genres and seemingly draws you in or just simply takes you on a musical journey. From the very first track onward the album, ‘The Howard Roark Project’, ties together beautifully with a combination of soul, rnb, pop and slow jam flavors. Tracks like ‘Best Of Me,’ ‘Merry Go Round’, ‘Loving You’ and ‘Reach The Sun’ hear Dasha at her very best, demonstrating rich, seductive vocals over soulful grooves.
‘The Howard Roark Project’ grows with conviction on each track, finishing on the highlight, ‘Into The Fire’. Dasha shows enough diversity with her lyrics and vocals to prove that she is definitely very relevant to the RnB scene.
Already known for her role in a season of Tyler Perry’s TV series “The Haves and the Have Nots” as well as Black N Sexy TV’s “THAT Guy”, Dasha is ready to set the music scene alight, as her majestic vocals and harmonies are nothing less than captivating.
Her voice ranges from an alto which gives you that smooth velvety sensation bringing her music to life, while her ebony contralto is sensuously joyful and emotionally grown-up. Like many great female singers, Dasha has one of those distinct voices that are recognizable no matter what she sings.
The differing moods of each song imply a spontaneous approach to the recording sessions influenced by the various emotions she obviously experienced behind the microphone. If talent equated to sales, this album would be platinum already. Evocative lyrics meet provocative beats as Dasha twists and turns her way through “Never Know” and “Give It All Away”.
While creating in a musical environment where all too many R&B/soul artists are coming at romance and social concerns from an often immature mindset, Dasha offers up a very thoughtful sensibility. ‘The Howard Roark Project’ is for me the essence of the best of what lurks in the voice and soul of this fascinating songstress.
The album is a compact and balanced choice from which you cannot leave even for a moment. Whether it’s introspective interludes, dopamine-fueled devotion, a plea for reciprocity or willfully falling for a player’s charms, Dasha nimbly conveys the spirit of the songs with a trademark kiss of pulsating cool.
The measured, methodical way that she wields her voice, along with the diverse moods and material, assures that all music fans and those just discovering Dasha’s unique appeal will crave the silky goodness that drips down and throughout the contents of ‘The Howard Roark Project’.
Dasha’s voice is as good as any I’ve heard, and the songs on this album flow beautifully. Is there really anything else you should be expecting from this talent?
