The Khancept, is an all-around artist that is part of a Dallas, Tx Collective called “Mvd Wxrld’ (pronounced Mad World). He has been performing all over DFW with his collective crew, and plans to cross borders starting 2017. The song, “Come With Me”, is the first single off of the upcoming project – “Into the Wild”.
The Khancept’s production pulls from a genre grab bag of psychedelic electronics, grimy drum-and-bass, and proggy breakdowns, interjected with occasional spacey sound bites. True to form, this beat is richly crafted, spliced into a perfectly paced rhythm that clearly challenges his comfort level. Luckily, The Khancept is a technically sound rapper, and nails the tricky timing with not even an occasional hiccup.
“Come With Me” is the type of idea that can’t go wrong. It’s a damn near guarantee you’re going to get good raps over left-field beats. That’s what’s expected, and that’s what’s given, but that’s not all. There is innovation and illumination here, too.
Listening to the track you can hear the way the music was constructed as a platform for The Khancept to stand on. It’s the no-holds-barred approach on the song that gives it a sense of urgency at certain points, as The Khancept switches his vocal gears into overdrive.
Blunts will be smoked, bottles will be broke, and words will be strewn over “Come With Me” – Simply because this is not your mainstream radio rap. The track is a generous slab of mesmerizing ear candy: the crackling example of a philosophizing street hustler that serves as the track’s focus, with lyrics that tell it like it is with just enough artistic remove to work as adrenaline-pumping entertainment.
And thanks to the talent of The Khancept, this is more than a fun glimpse at the will to survive your problems. The beat and rhymes will stick to your ribs.
“Come With Me” presents an artist who’s interested in setting a tone and pushing the envelope. His stylistic trademarks are present, but they don’t hog the spotlight. He is content painting compelling backdrops for his voice, and the result is a crackling synergy.
The Khancept deserves a lot of the credit for the track’s clarity of vision as well. Not as emptily flashy as some of his peers, this emcee is completely comfortable holding down and commanding the fort – his tales are rarely overblown, his rhymes simple and in your face, and his flow sounding like it was developed over the course of long nights spent practicing on street corners.
“Come With Me” showcases The Khancept’s ability to build nuanced worlds with his verses. Unfortunately, like all trips, it has to end eventually. So you’ll need to hit replay, and rework your way down from the top!
