Antonio Odom aka Dukane CBD, established CBD Entertainment in 2016. He has built up a solid crew and has several up and coming artists rolling on the roster, while he himself has been gaining some serious traction.
- Can you tell us a bit about where you come from and how you got started?
Dukane CBD: I come from Monroeville, Alabama originally but i’m based in Los Angeles and Fresno California. I got my start in the music game by seeing my cousin Bama Boi G kill it in the studio, I got inspired and stepped into the game.
- Do you handle both the songwriting and beats on your songs, or do you collaborate with others?
Dukane CBD: I write all my lyrics to my raps, I make some of my beats but mainly I work with my producer Stevie Cali to produce dope beats.
- Who were your first and strongest musical influences that you can remember?
Dukane CBD: Master P for sure, Rick Ross and Young Jeezy to name a few.
- What do you feel are the key elements in your music that should resonate with listeners?
Dukane CBD: I talk about real life, the hustle, the struggle, the triumph and I also got them bangers for you when you just wanna bop yo head to some fire.
- For most artists, originality is first preceded by a phase of learning and, often, emulating others. What was this like for you? How would you describe your own development as an artist and music maker, and the transition towards your own style?
Dukane CBD: There’s no one out there like me, my sound is different from my voice to my delivery, Im constantly learning and developing my style in all aspects.
- What’s your view on the role and function of music as political, cultural, spiritual, and/or social vehicles – and do you try and affront any of these themes in your work, or are you purely interested in music as an expression of technical artistry, personal narrative and entertainment?
Dukane CBD: I want to entertain, but with my platform I also want to uplift and educate so if there’s something the community could benefit from in a political or spiritual way , I have no problem speaking on it .. Chiaaaa
- Do you ever write a song with current musical trends, formulas or listener satisfaction in mind, or do you simply focus on your own personal vision and trust that people will empathize with your sound?
Dukane CBD: No
- Could you describe your creative processes? How do start, and go about shaping ideas into a completed song? Do you usually start with a beat, or a narrative in your head?
Dukane CBD: I start with the beat, then a hook and from there it just starts to flow.
- What has been the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in your career or life so far, and how did you overcome the event?
Dukane CBD: Dealing with the rumors and gossip, the entertainment world is full of smoke and mirrors.
- On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your career so far?
Dukane CBD: When I’ve gone platinum and I have a true influential voice that can help the kids grow and do more.
- With social media having a heavy impact on our lives and the music business in general, how do you handle criticism, haters and/or naysayers in general? Is it something you pay attention to, or simply ignore?
Dukane CBD: If they’re not talking you’re not relevant right? But usually I just ignore it.
- If you had a choice to go on tour with any acclaimed international artist in the near future, who would you choose, and why?
Dukane CBD: Beyonce or Gucci Mane I feel they have work ethic and don’t just do any show
- Could you tell us something about your latest project, and what the highlights are to watch out for?
Dukane CBD: Yes my latest project is my show Ball To Rap, it follows my career going from Ball to the music industry. I have my next album Kountry Lifestyle 2 coming out soon also.
- Do you have a personal favorite track amongst your compositions that has a specific backstory and/or message and meaning very special to you?
Dukane CBD: Defiantly my song “Made Nigga” it’s a simple track but it speaks on my life and journey.
- Creative work in studio environment, or interaction with a live audience? Which of these two options excite you most?
Dukane CBD: I love a live audience! I love to perform and connect with the fans.
- How essential do you think video is in relation to your music? Do you have a video you could suggest fans see, to get a better understanding of your craft?
Dukane CBD: Yes it’s important to show your visuals in your music, I think my show Ball To Rap actually gives fans a better few of me and my craft.
- What do you find most rewarding about what you do? And do you have a specific vision or goal set in your mind that you would like to achieve in the near future?
Dukane CBD: Being able to uplift my family and friends and help them go to the next level.
