Fast forward a quarter of a century and the phrase ‘Deep House’ has become to mean something completely different from its first incarnation during the halcyon days of house. It’s hard to move in the overpopulated market of all things ‘deep’ these days, but in amongst the monotony of the same old EDM samples and generic preset bass lines are a number of artists that really are able to tickle your fancy. One such EDM producer that we believe has kept it deep, down and dirty so far in 2017, with the release of his single “SometimeZ”, is Charlie Desi aka DJ DezZ, a DJ/Producer from Boston, who loves EDM and has a dreams to headline major festivals like EDC and Ultra. He is currently preparing his upcoming album from where the new single was lifted.
As a producer DJ DezZ really shines. Others wish that their records sounded like his: all tension, beats and space. He makes other underground house producers scurry back to the studio with their tails between their legs to re-assess their technique and skills.
DJ DezZ latest single “SometimeZ”, is another clear example of how a good producer can endlessly modify a simple template in ever more creative ways. Set around a modulating bass line and a synth sound, the track is a tour-de-force of perfectly programmed percussion and sound effects. Playful and sophisticated, but never taking its eye off the dancefloor with a banging rhythm, it is records like this that make the crowds cry out for more.
DJ DezZ twists enough nobs to make something familiar different enough for you to look at in a different way and like in a whole new way. It’s amazing. As far as those who may want to complain about this being music for the masses? Of course it is. This is business.
If you were putting your heart into making a track or album, wouldn’t you want to have as many people listen to it as possible? Please. Plain and simple, this song is a true anthem. If you have problems with the slightly repetitious nature of certain kinds of house music, “SometimeZ” is more about modulation and intensity than repetition. Sex can be repetitive, too, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun, right?
More than many would-be producers around, DJ DezZ gives the impression that he is a master at taking what might seem like a limited format and turning it into something majestic and powerful.
The beauty of DJ DezZ is he goes for that and at the same time challenges the listener in ways we’ve never thought of being challenged…through music. He has a very distinct style and seems to enjoy using various elements for musical effect. DJ DezZ makes music for the masses so the masses can think…and dance their feet off! I like that.
