Norwegian Independent producer Mattias Gillis Winge Rudh better known as MoEoStAr, played the clarinet and saxophone in various bands while growing up. He started producing in the 1990s, but gave it up while pursuing an engineering degree. For a period in his life, he was simply an active music listener, until he discovered the new production software via a smartphone app. In 2016 he started the “less than a $1000 Album” project, where he aims to produce and release a full album on a $1000 budget. In the meantime MoEoStAr has dropped the single, “Algorythmic Intelligence”.
Notwithstanding its modern technological recording, “Algorythmic Intelligence” sounds like a transitional track that shows the midi controlled influences of the 80s, while heavily anticipating the chopped-up glitch work that would come in the latter half of the 90s.
It makes for a very intriguing mix of lo-fi resonance, old school minimalism, and modern-day urban decay. You can feel the 80s and early-90s diminishing softly into the kind of sculptural electronics that carries us into the 21st century.
You’ll find a sense of comfort in the quaintness that is MoEoStAr’s music. “Algorythmic Intelligence” is like a drug, a stimulant, a natural high. It’s a sound that inspires motivation in whatever you are doing. The beauty of this single, lies in its simplicity – playful synths, a straight up beat, a thumping bass-line and a set of ethereal choral voices.
“Algorythmic Intelligence” doesn’t really sound like a musician attempting to express himself via his equipment, but an elegant duet of man and machine, locked together in some sort of bio-mechanical harmony.
“Algorythmic Intelligence”, is something that civilly requests your attention as opposed to demanding it. As such, you can look at it on a superficial level and still be stunned by the scrupulous rhythm and spotless sound engineering.
The track’s allure is in the details, both in terms of the textural facets and the development of ideas. This is an indispensable chapter in MoEoStAr’s musical story, and a must have for anyone who considers themselves a fan of music both eclectic and abstract.
When hearing “Algorythmic Intelligence” for the first time the production really caught my ear. Every drum beat, synth, keyboard and vocal sound was captured beautifully by the warm, slick production. MoEoStAr has the ability to make things so simple yet still manages to keep his music interesting and generis.
The bouncy electronic bleeps in this track have such a nice, relaxing, quirky sound that it’s almost impossible to avoid sitting back and relaxing.
