[twitter style=”vertical” float=”left”] [fbshare type=”button”] [google_plusone size=”standard” annotation=”none” language=”English (UK)”] JamSphere’s choice VIDEO OF THE WEEK for the week of 06 – 12 Feb 2012 is: MINK feat.Freja – HIDDEN STAR. The new Danish electro-pop-rock duo MINK released their first single “Hidden Star” February 7, 2012, introducing Freja W. on vocals.
On HIDDEN STAR, Mink show they know their way around a pop, mid-tempo, chart bubbler arrangement. Silky guitars, seductive melancholy verses and luscious, bittersweet chorus orchestrations.
Freja’s beseeching vocal modulation is perfectly suited to describe one of modern day’s great dilemma’s.
Loneliness…suicidal loneliness.
In a world of ever increasing social networks, chat forums, smart-phones and almost every unlimited means of technology dedicated to communication, we continue to know and understand each other even less than we did before. The song Hidden Star, adeptly plays testimony towards describing this sad and cruel alienation, which takes many lives each year, all over the world.
The two forces behind MINK is unrevealed as they hide behind the aliases Mick Motto (bass & guitars) & Frank Farben (synth & programming) and refuse to show their faces. The two former private detectives then CEO´s teamed up on a business trip in Malagain the summer of 2010, and decided to refresh their old passion of playing music. As teenagers Mick Motto & Frank Farben played the very first techno concert in Denmarkat the local school. Today MINK plays a mixed style of music with roots in electro, indie rock and pop.
“We are not committed to a certain musical style – we trust the feel-good factor” says Michael Motto. Frank Farben continues “exactly, and when you get the chills playing a song, you are on to something good”.
Frank & Mick grew up together in the 80´s in a suburban town, not far from Copenhagen,Denmark. They are influenced by a wide range of music such as Depeche Mode, David Bowie, Velvet Underground and the British underground band Cranes. They both played drums/ percussion at the local music school as nine-year-olds. Later they played in separate bands – Mick with success at DM inROCK(national rock music contest), and Frank played drums in a band where the Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning Schmidt, without great success, delivered the vocals.
MINK have already recorded their follow-up single “Mirror Mirror” to be released in April. Once again a new and yet undiscovered talent has been found, introducing Alice Eva on vocal. All MINK’s productions are recorded in the world famous; Medley Studios in Copenhagen. MINK’s first album release is expected June, 2012.
At the end of December 2012 our staff will choose the JAMSPHERE “VIDEO OF THE YEAR” from the 3 videos with the highest number of “Thumbs Up” voting from our readers.
