Yonas Prayudhi is amazing. He writes complex, emotional music, never sounding corny, and he can flat-out run a chill down your spine. This particular EP is more of a straight rock and grunge approach to his brand of music. One thing I picked out is how the bass used to great effect; it keeps the flow of the song together, allowing Yonas’ guitar to play more complicated and varied riffs, while the heart-pounding drums are also able to pick a song up from a slow melody to all outrage and then slow it back down again.

Yonas’ vocals are also varied and powerful: he can sing soft and beautifully as well as conversely go all out and soar. During all of the throaty power deliveries, he is able to keep the high quality of his voice. That’s very rare to find these days.

Yonas Prayudhi’s blend of amazing lyrics, musical talent and powerhouse vocals creates a sound that is somber, chilling and powerful. The major thing I need to say about Yonas’ craft is that you cannot simply take his music at face value. There are multiple layers of meaning and sound to digest. If you look at his music from only one perspective, then you will completely miss the point of what Yonas is trying to show us.

The way that his music weaves and twists the guitar melodies, drum beats, amazing vocals, and underlying bass rhythms will surely capture your attention on “I Belong To You”, “Suicide”, “For The Freedom”, “Alone”, “I Don’t Care” and “Good Night Roro ( A Javanese Lullaby)”.

All-round, Yonas Prayudhi hits us with a hard, unpredictable and very solid EP with “Emotional Harmony”. It is one of those rare indie rock records that make a clear and concise musical statement from start to finish. The songwriting and the production conspire to create a visceral, sinister mood that is deep in scope and seething with tension.

Whilst displaying a raw and aggressive sound, which serves to add intensity and razor-edged tension to the overall feel, “Emotional Harmony” never loses depth and dynamics; an excellent Ep by an artist reaching toward the height of his powers.
