THE REAL PARKER BROTHERS are made up of DIRTY AKA DIRTEEZY – FOUNDER/ARTIST and LIL DAVE AKA BEN FRANKS – ARTIST/PRODUCER. They are commonly described as “the VOICE of the streets. Going into depths of the struggle, turning nothing into something, with their delivery they echo real life into their lyrics.”
Recently we got to listen to the massive 21-track mixtape, “I Am Ben Franks” by Lil Dave, available for download on Datpiff. Right from the opening track, “Intro (Poor O’l Me)” it is clear that Lil Dave is a certified microphone assassin. This mixtape is straight banging. It’s one of those recordings you can kick back and listen to from start to finish. The beats on here are extremely well-layered and the lyrics are always pushing the extremes.
Nothing done on this mixtape is ever short of good. Lil Dave is one of those rappers that I can listen to every minute and every second of the day. Unlike most rappers, he can flow from off the top of his head and it makes sense. He not only gives you the music in these songs, he gives you the mind of the music-maker. Plus he holds no punches on anything he does and that is always respectable.
If you like lyrical content it’s impossible not to put Lil Dave head and shoulders above a lot of the garbage you hear all day. The mixtape is also jam-packed with features who all deliver excellent collaboration efforts, not least, Dirty, THE REAL PARKER BROTHERS founder. Lil Dave and Dirty perfectly complement each other on 9 of the 21 tracks. Delivering force and fury together with depth as well as thought out rhymes, the two prove that there are still untapped areas in rap music. I’m thinking of standouts like “She A Keeper ft Dirty”, “One Wish ft. Dirty & Geezy”, “So Selfie ft. J Murda & Dirty”, “Dollars ft Cat & Dirty” and “Whip Coke ft. Dirty J Murda & Cory C”.
Each track is excellently produced with a down to earth quality desperately needed in the game right now. Nothing is over the top. Many rappers nowadays go all out for punchlines, while others go so deep you can’t even understand what they’re talking about. Lil Dave and the crew working on this mixtape have found the perfect balance; heartfelt lyrics that you can relate and vibe to, with just enough explicitness to give it a harder underground edge.
All-round “I Am Ben Franks” by Lil Dave is a 5 star mixtape and a good mix of hard and low-key tracks. Lil Dave and THE REAL PARKER BROTHERS, crew and guests have put together excellent beats, great vocals and superb features to create a mixtape that is impressive. It’s got club bangers, smooth tracks to ride to, and some deep stuff too. Get it, you won’t be disappointed!
