The JJ Evanoff Experience is a collaborative musical expression hailing from Boulder, Colorado consisting of producer/guitarist JJ Evanoff, bassist Parker Oberholzer, and drummer BK Kahn. The project originally began as solo venture for JJ, djing his productions and playing guitar over them. In August 2014, Parker and BK joined the group, turning it into a full live electronic ensemble. Since the congregation of all three members, their sound has become much more centered on classic rock influences, while still including the subtle yet affective implementation of electronica.
The JJ Evanoff Experience is ready to grab you by the scruff of the neck and force you into submission with their new single “Breathe Out”. Featuring their very own, special brand of pulsating rock-infused electro vibes, which reveals their hybrid dance sound and unabashed rock attitude.
JJ Evanoff described the making of their latest single “Breathe Out” as: “the result of a musical idea that has been slowly developing over the last 10 months of my life. Slowly it came together and the band started performing it at our shows, and that’s when it really came alive. The issue then was, attempting to capture that same raw essence in the studio. After relentless trial and error, I finally constructed something that fulfilled the vision that had been in my mind since the very beginning.”
I was skeptical of this band at first, being weary of all things hip, that mix completely opposed musical concepts – electro and rock. I love good electronic music, though not as much as I love good rock n’ roll, but I do tend to separate the two. Because of this I may have jumped on the JJ Evanoff Experience bandwagon a bit late, but I’m so glad I didn’t miss this one. Luckily I gave it a few listens and was immediately engaged. Every so often a release drops and makes your ears perk. This is definitely one of them. From start to finish it’s a compositional gem.
“Breathe Out” is full of lush, rich and deep ambient textures, stretching and warping through a laidback but insistently energetic rhythm. There are plenty of vintage synth sounds surrounding a central piano theme and an ever-reaching guitar melody that etches and scorches its way over a layered backdrop of pure emotion.
“Breathe Out” is the type of song that forges an idea and pushes it so compulsively from one bar to the next, you’re almost immediately aware that you’re listening to the type of track you never hear anymore, anywhere – yet sonically, it’s so advanced and up to the moment – technically so pointed and clever – it could only be made right now!
