The seeds for The Bourgeois (pronounced boor-zwah) were originally sown in the Summer of 2011 when Zachary Mobley (ex-Have Fun Dying, Popular Culture) entered VuDu Studios in Port Jefferson, New York with veteran producer Steven Haigler (The Pixies, Brand New, Fuel, Local H) and recorded the three tracks that would later be featured on the “Perverting The American Dream” single. Upon returning home to Tulsa, Oklahoma, former Popular Culture band-mates Jeremy Quaid (bass/background vocals), and Jason Largent (drums), were recruited to fill out the lineup.
Local radio station Z104.5 The Edge featured the song “Perverting The American Dream” on their 2011 Homegroan compilation CD, and the track received significant airplay. The Bourgeois have had features in both the Urban Tulsa Weekly and The Tulsa World and are currently working on building a fan base through live performances and online promotion.

The mere thought of releasing a 3-sided single already sets the The Bourgeois apart from it’s colleagues. One track less and it would have been a classic single release, one track more and it would have been your common EP distribution. But these guys boldly opt to be different and shove their brazen hard-thumping rock melodies slap bang in the middle.
So on the one hand you get more than you deserve from a single, on the other it’s not quite enough to feed your listening needs, leaving you desperately desiring more.
‘Perverting The American Dream’ opens with a lightly picked six-string riff and layered vocal harmonies, which quickly fall into a deliciously wicked rock rhythm and pounding backbeat. Zachary Mobley brandishes his rasping voice relentlessly throughout the verses and cranking up the acid power in his vocal chords during choruses. The song is cleverly arranged, with some fiery bridges and ear-catching power chord progressions. The top-notch sound production further demonstrates that ‘Perverting The American Dream’ is absolutely radio ready as an A-side single.
The first B-side ‘Mi Amor’ shunts in, on a similar “quieter” style to the single’s A-side. Only this time around, The Bourgeois keep the sound more alternative and less classic rock. A strong rolling bass line and snare-smacking drumbeat hold up the energetic guitar rhythms, while Zachary runs his more melodic lead vocals across the arrangement. As on the previous track, the band display their ease with musical bridges and breaks, which keep their songs far from the usual alternative-rock monotony, as well as confirm their craftmenship.
Quite frankly, the second B-side, ‘Opium For The Masses’ is my favorite track, but then I like my rock dark, hard and filled with crunching electric guitar hooks.
On this track the band satisfies my sound craving beyond all expectations. Crashing drums, a thumping bass line and crushing power chords create a solid foundation for Zachary’s throaty bellowing vocals, which come shining through like a flaming torchlight on a dark night.
The Bourgeois demonstrate, with ‘Perverting The American Dream’, that they are a young and upcoming band who already play like war-scarred veterans.
Their brand of alternative rock songs are captivating, energetic and melodic, while the band maintain all the essentially required rock principles of being fiery, steadfast and ferocious in their playing.
The Bourgeois cover all angles.

Awesome band, good review. These songs make me want to get into an altercation at the club.
