Having reviewed Morning Fame on various occasions, I’ve come to realize that when Vik Kapur is involved in any project, the sure things you can expect is top level musicianship, inspired lyrics and a classic pop-rock sound that is hardly made by anyone else today. On his latest project Race Against Fate, Kapur and his new musical accomplice, Jay Knapp, again pushes the envelope further with their latest single release “Stolen Man”.
The great news is that Kapur maintains the ability to take his fans, as well as potential fans, on an exhilarating journey while maximizing the musical experience. The ‘bad’ news about this single is that is truly addictive, and will hijack a whole lot of your attention and emotions.
Textured sounds and Kapur’s singing, adds emotions that connect on every level. Give this a listen and I think you will love this single. Race Against Fate (much like Morning Fame) though extremely modern sounding, take us back to a time when melody and good vocals were essential to any song; unlike most of today’s music which relies heavily on beats, samples and gimmicky vocal effects. Fueled by the passion and drive which is badly missing from today’s computerized recordings, “Stolen Man” has no missteps and many triumphs.

“Stolen Man” is a diary set to music, a personal, intimate song, as well as a marvelous social statement. Inventive stuff made over a simple melody and straight backbeat. The musicianship on display is second to none as guitars crackle and soar in all the right places, while weeping gently when required. Vik Kapur’s fine voice and his thinking man’s lyrics are exquisite. The drumming is just right, as are the basslines. Proving, these are sounds that can and should be made!
It is rare that you find a band that can indulge itself creatively, explore different sounds musically, and yet still put out catchy material that the fans will embrace. Race Against Fate achieve just that with “Stolen Man”. This is a song by a master tunesmith who is simply making music he enjoys making. Fortunately, it is also music that has something worth saying, which is unique and groundbreaking.
I could go into more detail about introspective lyrics, a lovely melody, and a voice that doesn’t let go. But, I won’t. Right in the middle of listening to “Stolen Man” for the first time, I declared it beautiful. And beautiful, it is. Everyone who loves strong melody and good lyrics should own this single.
