When I heard “A Million Reasons” for the first time I was immediately blown away. I haven’t heard such a beautifully, elegantly and hypnotically orchestrated pop song in quite a while. I can’t recall a similar experience in recent times, apart from Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know”.
Needless to say, I also checked out the video on Youtube as well as the band’s website and I can gladly say that I ended up discovering probably one of my favorite new bands and music of a superior level. Of course the downside is there is hardly any info of People Like Us to be found anywhere on their websites, Facebook or Youtube. So, sadly we can’t tell you anything about the members of the band, or writers and producers of their music. We can tell you though, that the superb music video was directed by Evan Ciniello and Abdul Malik.
People Like Us has been constantly rotating on my webplayer and its one of the few bands that I have been listening to on a daily basis. With each listen I found something new to love, or noticed something that wasn’t there before and just fell more in love with this band.
Whoever is responsible for the vocals, both male and female, as well as the writing, producing and arranging of “A Million Reasons” plus the other premixes I heard, namely, “So Long”, “Lay Me Down” and “Lost In Time” has certainly done a memorable job. The result is a collection of songs that has solid beats and bright, structured production to ensure pop success, but also features diverse, sometimes complex arrangements, with the tracks including melodic, tremulous guitar riffs over sumptuous keyboard beds, combined with heavy percussion.

This is important because it gives the tracks a quality which takes it a cut above the ordinary pop album, a sound which is, at times, almost symphonic in its structure.
In general, the lyrics are personal enough to relate to but abstract enough to appeal to the general pop audience. Even more amazing is the fact that all this creative diversity, is contained within only handful of tracks I heard at random. It makes me wonder what these guys could accomplish on a full-length album!
People Like Us’ “A Million Reasons” and the other premixes, were a refreshing surprise. Brilliantly written, modern urban-rock songs that demonstrate rock is not going to die quietly. In fact, I believe People Like Us has set the standard to how modern rock should be played today. Each song brings an interesting concept to the listener; with an abundance of twists and diversity that balances the musical hooks just enough to keep the music on the progressive art-rock side of the equation rather than candy-pop.
The single, “A Million Reasons” completely surpassed my expectations. It’s beautifully written, filled with emotion, and gorgeously performed and recorded. With the release of their upcoming album, we’re hoping to tell you a whole lot more about this band from Toronto, known as People Like Us!
